Another Scythe with innate dark would be Scythe of Nahr Alma iirc...
Also this technically isn't a halberd when broken, the santiers spear also is a good solid weapon to use.
Also for hittting sweet spots, if you're a certain distance from an enemy you'll get a sweet spot (it's easier with certain halberds (mastodon halberd and santiers spear than other halberds (roaring halberd)
I do not really like scithes in this game. They were great in the first game. Yet in this game as well as in DS3 they are rather underpowered in my opinion. The scithe moveset in DS1 was way way better.
But then again, things were different there.. here, Syan's Halberd, don't think i know where that even drop, the large elephant things with the shield? Seem to recall those dropping parts of the Syan set, so maybe they drop the halberd as well?
And Lucerne?
Think i liked that in Demon's Souls, good stunlocking or something, but i digress, will look into the other choices, surely there's something that can be gotten relatively early that will carry me till i can get my endgame choice, aas not a fan of upgrading something that i replace later, as it feels like waste of souls.
Ah, of course, knew i was wrong, so thanks for setting me straight.
The BK Halberd is the exception though, in that its moveset actually got a bit better (especially with the addition of the magical death-spin of doom). On top of that, it's pretty good for a halberd since it's a little bit shorter than most halberds and has a pretty wide blade, so sweetspotting is easier with it than a lot of other halberds.
Scythes are okay, but they use up a lot of stamina to swing and their 1-handed moveset is pretty awful. They also have a much harder sweetspot to achieve for maximum damage. Not to say they are bad, but they have a vicious learning curve and can be a pain to get used to.
Another good halberd is the Archdrake Mace (don't be fooled by the name), but you don't get that one for a little while. It's reasonably light, uses the Lucerne moveset, and does very high poise damage while consuming very little stamina. It also infuses well, when you get around to doing that. For ease of access though, BK Halberd is probably the way to go early on.
Mastodon is pretty much the best standard-moveset one, not really any competition. Archdrake Mace's poise damage is nice, but the ton of damage-loss compared to the MH hurts.
People were praising BK weps in 1 cos they enable easy-mode when you get them early and are super easily upgraded. In NG+ there's better stuff.

Did score the BK Halberd cos it was a quick grab and so far it's been decent, unupgraded and i am fine with that, since it's a disgusting twinkling weapon.
Anyways, let's say i got Syan's/Mastifferino, how would i upgrade them, just standard +10 with balanced quality build w/ a resin/flame weapon buff thrown in for good measure if need be or would they be worth infusing with elements? Though seeing as i don't really plan on bumping up my int/faith much if at all, the scaling would be extra sucktastic.
On an unrelated note, how are twinblades?
