Controller is not working, help!

Works fine on other games. I've reinstalled DS2. Controller will not work on menus or in-game

General troubleshooting steps for controller-issues with souls-games:

• Disable all software, related to input devices, that may be running in the background, like Steam Input, x360ce, XBOX Game Bar, companion apps for KB&M or keypads (e.g. "Razer Stream Controller")
  
• If you don't have a XInput-controller (XBOX ones and clones) and have to use controller software for compatibility, make sure only one type of controller-software is running. I recommend Steam-Input, which you can enable at Steam --> Settings --> Controller --> General Controller Settings
  
• Make sure only one input device is connected to your computer at a time, excluding KB&M (unless your mouse has a joystick-function, then try unplugging that one too)
  
• If a wireless connection is being used for the controller, try using an USB cable instead
  
• Disable 3rd-party controller drivers. Go to "Device Manager" and under "Input Devices", disable all entries of "HID-Compliant Game Controller" or non-generic sounding names (e.g. "vJoy")

I appreciate the replies but they don't seem too relevant as my controllers work fine in every other game including all souls games, and have until yesterday worked in DS2 also. Has something changed with DS2?

DS2 gets a patch soon, but as of this post, nothing about this game has changed. I'd still not rule out something on your end having changed. Each soulsgame has it's unique controller-related quirks and DS2 in particular is very iffy, when it comes to controllers and something, like plugging in a new input-device, causing Windows to automatically setting up a driver for it or installing a program, that ships with 3rd-party controller drivers, like some emulators can make your controller stop working with DS2 specifically.

Slight edit to my previous comment: When I said "until yesterday have worked in DS2" I meant yesterday was the first time I have encountered an issue.

The last time I played DS2 before yesterday was many months ago, before the multiplayer was disabled, so DS2 *has* changed since I last played

Many (DS4, x360, switch, steam) they all don't work DS2

DS2 natively supports only XInput controllers, everything else has to be emulated through some or other means. Perhaps something is wrong with your SteamController layer? Try disabling all emulation in controller settings and using x360 controller. If it works, Steam is the problem. If it doesn't, the problem is elsewhere.

Then my bets are on a software/driver conflict or even a hardware one, if you have multiple controllers connected at once and i can only recommend the troubleshooting steps, I've already posted. At least ruling out these kind of conflicts can be a big step towards getting your controller(s) working again soon and those troubleshooting steps not all that time-consuming.

And again, DS2 has it's own specific issues with controllers, which is why they're working fine in other games. Driver conflicts are an especially common problem, like Windows automatically installing the generic "HID-Compliant Game Controller"-driver, which doesn't play nice with DS2 for some reason.

I'm not using more than one connected at any one time, DS4 is connected via DS4windows which is only active when I use that controller.

I'll try messing with devicemanager and steam controller settings
