fps?

In specific circumstances at least, yes. I don't know a lot about how NG+ works (in part due to the fact I haven't been there yet), but one notable quirk is that the rare drops of certain enemies, like Heide Knights, increase dramatically in drop rate once you move on to bonfire intensity 2 or higher.

Ok, so sunlight medals would more likely drop if I increase the bonfire intensity, thanks!

Take that with a grain of salt though. I have no knowledge about any other drop other than Heide Knight drops. You may wind up wasting your bonfire ascetics only to find out the drop rate for Sunlight Medals doesn't budge.

Make 30k agape ring run. Put signs in the Forest of Giants/Heide Tower at the peak hours.
Its would take about 1 minute less on average.
Clear the area and boss in 10 minutes, repeat. Now you have sunlight spear and lvl 3 covenant at 30k soul memory and you dont need to farm heide knights/falconers with horrible drop rates.

I don't remember what my sm was (probably somewhere between 500-800k) but i got 36 sun medals by placing my sign in Mytha at Earthen Peak.

Dark Souls II operates on a simple principle for drop rates:

The more you want the item, the lower the drop rate. :(

Yeah, I'm noticing, the big hexes undead stopped dropping the sunlight medals in the last half hour. I still need 6 of them -.-

Yeah, but I need it on the 12 mill SM char, because I'm trying to get all the achievements and the last one is the Sunlight spear... I won't start a new char just for this achievement.

I know, but I almost speedran the earliest part of the game and I begun to do some coop at a very high SM. At this point almost no one put their signs or summon a sunbro in need :(

The falconers in red armor next to King's Crossing also drop them. It's the same drop rate, but there are more of them and they are easier to defeat. Brightstone Cove Tseldora is also a good spot, but the wild boars slow the process down.

Farming the giant undead is probably the harder way.

Until someone can show me proper data (maybe someone got bored enough), i believe "NG+ has better drops" to be a misconception, originating from ivory King and Loyce Soul farming. Most people kill Ivory King before farming Loyce Souls and may ask how to speed it up. Then people might say, to just burn an ascetic or do it on NG+ to farm them, while keeping the Ivory King alive. This might've evolved into "NG+ equals more Loyce Soul drops = better dropchance" later down the line.

There are some tests, that would confirm, that higher bonfire intensity has no effect, but the sample size is too low to tell for sure. I wouldn't be surprised, if NG+ did affect it one way or another, though. Item drops do have their quirks. For example, you can exhaust equipment drops of enemies, once they've dropped one of each. Not sure, if this affects all enemies, though.

If there's anything, you need to know about item-drops, then that they are consistently inconsistent. You can kill the same enemy 1000 times for a specific drop and then do it all over again only to get equal or less drops of the same item, even with item-discovery added. Either, it's simply broken or there are some hidden mechanics (like diminishing returns or item drop-decay), that no one has been able to 100% confirm yet.

I know, but I thought that maybe this game has a drop rate mechanic similar to Sekiro, where the drops actually increase in NG+ and beyond. It seems to me that there is a hidden mechanic which allows enemy to drop a certain amount of items per cicle... or, at least, there is a "drop cooldown", where the drop rate are completely decayed for a while. I don't have spent enough time farming in this game to confirm this theory, maybe it was bad luck, but I've got 5 medals in about 30 minutes, lots of silky stones and then absolutely nothing for an hour. Then I've started another journey (my actual NG) and I've experienced the same: some drops in the first half hour, then nothing.
QuentinTeo Jan 15, 2022 @ 2:41pm
Ok, from I've just experienced it seems that the enemies DOES have a certain amount of possible drops per cicle: I've used some ascetic bonfires and every big hex undead left me one sunlight medal per cicle and like 2-3 smooth silky stones. Being part of the Covenant of Champions didn't help, because the drops were already "drained". Said so, I've farmed 6 sunlight medals in about 30 minutes, so now I'm done! The "only" thing left is farming the bell invaders... it will take a while, even with the crazy warrior

The drop rate may eventually be perceived to be very low, yes, but it's never zero.

I don't know why people have gone to other response ways. The answer is yes.

You can not imagine the things that have been dropped to me in NG+7...
