is worth to kill Maughlin the Armourer?
I'm a newbie and I'm playing with a mage, but I saw on youtube someone killing this character to get the complete Tseldora Set which (according to the video), this increases +20% souls obtained... But since I don't know the game, I'm afraid of killing that character and losing some interesting mission or something more important in the future.

He's not useless, like that other person said, but if you don't plan on using heavy armor and don't plan on buying boss armor sets (or pieces) then he is expendable. After you spend enough souls with Maughlin he'll start to sell a lot nicer armor, which includes the Elite Knight Set, Alva Set (one of the best looking sets in the game, it's lightweight for metal armor, and offers really decent protection for it's weight), and the Royal Soldier Set (it's clean undamaged version of the Hollow Soldier Set, and it looks a lot like Paladin Leeroy's Set from Dark Souls 1). If you don't mind not really roleplaying as your build, then wearing Maughlin's "armor" is worth it for all the extra souls. Also that set kind of makes you look weird/like a noob imo, but since servers are down I guess it doesn't matter.

Overrated strat. More of a speedrun/challenge stuff.

You could also get Covetous Silver Serpent Ring for 10% soul gain increase in Lost Bastille, or its +1 version for 15% increase by spending 10k+ souls in Melentia's shop.

Maughlin will also gift you an interesting armor set upon spending a significant amount of souls at his place

I think you're thinking of the invisible Aurous Set, right? He only gives that to you though after he upgrades his stock a second time (which is when he gets all cocky) AND you have to have zero souls. He says "In a spot of bother are we? Here, take this. My compliments."

Killing Maughlin early is usually a strategy for speedrun or some other challenge run. Maughlin drops his armour set, i.e. the Tseldora set, upon death and the set itself gives you bonus souls from defeated enemies. As you progress through the game, you will obtain armour pieces that provide more bonus souls than what the Tseldora set provide. If you really want the Tseldora set, you can farm them at a late-game area.

so the advice is really not to kill him because I can get other better things in the future?

I'm really new to this game... I'm actually a mage because I find it to be a relatively easy mode to play, since I attack from a distance, but my current level in Dark Souls in general is very basic, I've never played Dark Souls before, I don't even know Dark Souls 1, so I'm really lost, and I don't mind dying 200 times, but I don't want to make some decision now that I might regret mid-game

Maughlin is useful to keep around so you can buy yourself more fashion. Once you invest some souls in his shop, he starts to sell more variety, including boss armor.

If you need a massive boost to your money gain really fast early game, it would probably be a better idea to kill him as soon as you enter Majula. Otherwise, you can obtain the pieces of his set later, from a particular enemy type that lives in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

TL;DR: Don't kill NPCs unless you have a really good reason to.

Well it's simple, do you plan on experimenting with different armor sets? And I mean actual armor, not clothing (that's still considered "armor" in Dark Souls games). Maughling only sells heavy armor. Some of his lower quality armor sets are made of leather, but everything else he sells is made of steel and even iron (I'm specially talking about the Smelter Demon armor set). If you want to be more of a battlemage and use real armor, then keep Maughling alive. If you want to use Maughlin's "armor" then kill him until you get some better mage robes/armor (like Straid will give you his full set, the Black Set, after you trade 3 boss souls with him and the head piece increases your cast speeds).

Honestly? You should avoid killing ANY npcs on your first run, if you can help it. In almost every case, it will either make zero positive difference, or more likely just make the run much more difficult for you, cause you denied yourself a good merchant, or source of co-op summons, or destroyed an entire questline until your NG+.

Unless you are actually wanting to speed things up much earlier with higher soul % drop challenge run, DO NOT KILL Maughlin. His armor set isn't unique anyway, pieces can be dropped by the spider-controlled undead in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

And on top of all that, there's other alternatives to soul-boosting[darksouls2.wikidot.com] armor pieces too, including a chest-piece with better % gain. Literally the only soul-boost gear unique to Tseldora set is the pants.

Even if you are mostly a caster, you might like some of the stuff he sells for fashion souls, if nothing else.

Though keep in mind a lot of his armor sets don't get added until you defeat certain bosses and/or start spending some souls at his shop. First new set of gear is unlocked at 1k souls spent, next at 15k souls.

He also gives you access to the unique Moon Butterfly set on higher bonfire rank, that grants a constant poison aura and better/floatier jump. Just don't hang out around NPCs while wearing it.

Also the relatively light invisible armor set if you talk to him while holding 0 souls, after unlocking the post-15k sets.

See this page[darksouls2.wikidot.com] for more info.

You can get a soul-boosting ring after buying enough stuff from Melentia (the old hag in Forest of Fallen Giants that sells consumables), after you buy stuff for 15,000 souls total from her, select "Talk" and she'll give you the ring.

IMO the ring is better than the Tseldora armor set, since it lets you wear armor with actual defense....

In general, almost every merchant has a shopping prize to give you for spending enough kromer on their goods (or services instead if they have services).

indeed, Melentia has given me a ring... unfortunately I already have that ring XD

Thank you anyway
