Strongly recommend stone ring and/or dark weapon or anything else that will increase chance of breaking their poise and stunning them mid-attack, they aren't many hits if your weapon is good. You should probably dodge initial charging attack when they spawn though, it hurts a lot.
If you want all the items here, they're not hard to find and get either, there's nothing far out of the way. Check the coffins near the starting point for a couple items. Look around 1st ruin for two more items, including against the outer walls. There's an obvious lootable corpse right between 1st-2nd & 2nd-3rd ruins too. 2nd ruin has unlockable healing pool but no items, 3rd ruin has one item. Final item is hugging the edge of the canyon after last ruin.
from my own extensive testing, the ice stallions only appeared to spawn during a blizzard and ONLY the blizzard. not once have I ever seen them spawn while the blizzard was clearing up.
the blizzard itself lasts for 30 seconds while the clearing lasts for 20 seconds, with an optimal setup, you'll only encounter 2 blizzards and have to fight 2 stallions.
as long as you have at least 6 strength/dexterity than any build is capable of going through the area so long as they have the appropriate tools: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8ZqhuVHqdw
349 hours played vs 5K hours played, but yeah, extensive testing lol
the majority of my hours are on console, although im failing to see the relevancy in comparing hours if the time spent studying how the area works is there
If you're gonna run GC or OKH, I'd just say to run Dark infused OKH instead of raw, primarily because it saves you time from having to apply a resin.
Additionally, if you're gonna run that strategy at all, it's best to not summon phantoms whatsoever as the phantoms will increase the poise health of the Ice Stallions, OKH also doesn't need the Stone Ring unlike the GC, a single R2 will pancake them if you're running it solo, making them quick and easy kills for traversing the rest of the area, if you're gonna use any weapon buffs for the stallions at all, dark is the go-to choice given it's their lowest resistance
It's okay, not everybody sees the novelty of experience. You'll see, one day!
Try to kill reindeers with daggers or shortswords, its just not worth it.
Also boss itself can catch you on wake up attempts so you also need a little bit luck.
Also, summon all 3 NPC for easier time,
-Head of Vengarl as melee/tank
-Abbess Feeva as buffer/healer/caster
-Manhunter O'Harrah as ranged damage dealer
Boss takes longer of coz cuz of increased health, but that makes the fight even more epic.
The only hard part is to get to boss but even that can be easily pass with 3 npc's and running in clear sky. Even the boss is not hard, as long you get other kitty down.
I personally run from ruin to ruin. Only have to fight 1 or 2 reindeer.
Outside of that I don't think it's worse than some of the other bs areas in the game either, still one of the more annoying ones tho.
