Lances are good in pvp if they are paired with a fast weapon in your other hand
Large club is good for pancaking in PvE...
Both are bad in PvP if you're a beginner. In general, Lances are better because good spacing and running attacks are aids to face, but you've to be a pro to do that reliably and on purpose.
I'd say the Large Club is overall a bit better than the Grand Lance for PvE, even though both are very viable. Reason being a) Strike-damage helps nonticably against some of the more pesky enemies and b) the 2hR2 is a pancake which slams about everything that isn't ten times as big as you into the ground, it's great cheese for some of the tougher enemies and NPC-invaders. It'll burn through the durability though... and c) it's got some horizontal swings.
However, the GL has more damage potential because of its high counter stat, pair it with the Leo Ring and you got an even better damage output. You can also use it for poking behind a shield.
The GL has more efficient AR gains, too, if you go 40/40 you reach higher AR with the GL than with the CL @62/18, it isn't much anyway but it still stays the better weapon.
The term comes from Demon's Souls. An upgrade path which increased Str and Dex scaling was called like that.
It's kind of bad in this game because there's only VERY few weapon which actually work well with it, like the Sun Sword, Curved Dragon Greatsword or Bone Fist.
Forgot to say, its main appeal is to be able to use just about every (physical damage) weapon in the game. It actually only really started to be "good" as in "optimized damage output for the points invested" in DaS3 with the Refined-infusion.
Oh, so I've always been using quality builds in this game without even knowing xD
Except on my mage.
Why are you quoting that comment though? It's referring to quality builds in general, not to the GL.
