Additionally, if you find a Pharros Contraption somewhere in No Man's Wharf, it will light the whole place up. (assuming you have a lockstone.)
The Phaross Contraption mentioned by Harrison does light up a significant portion of the area and will send the monsters that are afraid of light into hiding. But it doesn't count as lighting the torch sconces in the area so if you're out to trigger that event you have to light them by hand.
The torch can be a hindrance in certain areas though. If you're doused in tar/oil it can ignite you. Certain NPCs will attack you for having light. etc.
