Dragon Tooth vs. Fume Ultra Greatsword
Just beat Raime, and I'm wondering if it's worth swapping out my Dragon Tooth +5 for the Fume Ultra Greatsword. It sounds like I can't buff FUGS with Dark Weapon, so it'll do less damage compared to a buffed Dragon Tooth, but perhaps more damage than the Dragon Tooth without the buff. Is the FUGS significantly longer/have more reach? I used the Greatsword before getting the Dragon Tooth, and the Greatsword definitely had more reach but slightly less damage and was heavier.

I could also just powerstance a couple of Greatswords. Maybe that would be better than either of these.

The Fume UGS can block at the same time as it attacks, when you press R2. That's it's main advantage. Damage-wise, a buffed weapon will always outdo a non-buffed weapon, but that's a matter of taste. Damage numbers in this game are fairly misleading. You may find that your buff is only enabling you to kill an enemy 2-3 hits faster than without it, so I would hardly say that buffs are essential for being successful in this game. That being said, if you choose to switch to a FUGS, it's a great weapon, easily one of my favorites.

Damage-wise, they're pretty much on par. Not sure if i'd put in the extra 20 points into DEX for the FUGS, though, if i'm already rocking Dragon Tooth (though you seem to have the stats for it already, even though it's wasted on Dragon's Tooth).

Aside from buffs and it's greatshield gimmick, FUGS has 110 counter damage, which makes it deal 10% extra damage on whiff punishes (most of your attacks vs bosses), but Dragon's Tooth has strike-type damage, which is the most common physical weakness in PvE (while slash is the most commonly resisted).

Powerstancing can be fun, but it's more of a gimmick. It's not bad, but 2 R1's usually accomplish the same thing, often more efficiently, than a single powerstanced L2. Though you can perform the "quickattack"-exploit with the powerstanced Ultra-GS L2.

Fume have surely a better reach but the real strenght of this weapon is the ability to block/attack at the same time expecially when used 2 handed. Fume works really well even like a shield and if u block with it enemies will bounce like a greatshield. Only real problem of FUGS is that is lacking of horizontal attacks... u may need to use another weapon at left hand for fix this problem.
Anyway it depend everything on your build... 30 dex make the fume more a quality weapon than a str weapon even if it have an S scaling on str.

Just because you need 30 dex doesn't mean its a quality weapon, quality weapons are weapons that benefit from having both strenght and dex up, if you compare fume greatsword with different stats you will se what i mean, with 30 dex it has an AR of 592, and with 99 dex it has 607, its not a quality weapon but it has a dexterity requirement, anyways, dragon tooth all the way, less stats to spend, better damage type, better CC, and the fume ultra greatsword moveset sucks for PvE.

Of course man... i agree with u but if u need 30 dex... u are quality. It's a str weapon but u need to be a quality fo use it with 30 dex. Except if u do a build sl 300-400 but at those levels are we still speaking of builds? At those levels u can do more or less everything.

At this point we are just arguing semantics, and yeah, in a strenght build i would not like to expend 20 levels on dexterity for one weapon, but if someone wants me to recommend a quality UGS i'm not gonna recomend the fume greatsword, because its a strenght weapon, getting a quality build is kinda like byproduct of using it.
