While standing in front of a NPC with the "(A) Talk" prompt, i've started counting the frames from the point, where the prompt gets disabled and stopped counting, once the prompt is enabled again. Haven't tested other consumables or the exact breakpoints between 87 and 100 AGL though.
87 AGL = 148 Frames
100 AGL = 128 Frames
105 AGL = 128 Frames
110 AGL = 128 Frames
120 AGL = 128 Frames
87 vs 100 AGL effectively shaves off a third of a second. IMO not worth increasing AGL for alone, just a bonus you get alongside more iframes.
Even with 110 agil, drinking estus still seems slower than ds1 and ds3.
I wonder by how much it's slower? I'd be curious how the frame rates compare with drinking in the 3 games.
My bet is ds1 and ds3 have the same speed since they seem to be based on the same coding, whereas ds2 seems to have been coded on its own from scratch.
I'm pretty sure ds1 and ds3 use the same coding. For example, in ds1 and ds3, if you fire an arrow without locking onto a target, but lock on to it before it hits, the arrow will do 1 less point of damage than if you had locked on to the target before you fired it. Ds2 doesn't have this feature.
A lot of other mechanics are different, such as being able to fast climb up a ladder in ds2, but not ds1 or ds3.
It's worth mentioning, that DS2 also has Lifegems, which is more similar to DS3 Estus-chugging in terms of speed. You can also move a little during that. The drawback is, that the healing rate is much slower, but you can stack the effect. Also you can carry a max of 99 which you can simply buy for around 30k souls total from Melentia.
DS3 is fastest, DS1+2 are so close they might as well be the same. You can sprint up ladders in DS3.
By "sprinting" up, in DS2 I have to press down the red button on my xbox controller. Otherwise, just pushing the knob up to control the speed is the same as ds1 and ds3.
In ds1 and ds3, pressing the red button when I'm going up doesn't do anything, it doesn't make me go at an extra fast speed.
In Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne for that matter, you can sprint up ladders. It’s just not as fast as it was in DS2. There’s no confusion.
In ds2 there are two speeds to go up a ladder:
1. Push the knob up to go at a normal pace.
2. push knob up and hold the red button (xbox controller) to go faster.
In ds3 one speed:
1. Push the knob up. There are no variations, doesn't matter if you push it up slightly or all the way.
What are you pushing to sprint up a ladder in ds3? I see no other option.
