I can't start boss fight with King Vendrick

I don't get it, no matter how much I hit him he wouldn't react to it in any way, and I have hit a lot like for straight ten minutes or so, just wtf do I do?

Vendrick has huge defense buff, which has to be lowered by having Souls of a Giant in your inventory. For each soul owned, his defense buff will be cut in half (for a minimum of x1 for having 5 Souls of a Giant).

Then you're screwed. Fighting him with less than 4 Giant souls will take forever.

Don't worry, you're not missing out on much. It's something you'll have to remember for next playthrough. Happens quite a bit in Souls games. :^)

But I can use bonfire ascetic and respawn all of those bosses, right?

From what I know, that only works with the Ancient Dragon.

You're missing out three items and a soul that can be used to create two weapons or a shield.

Idk about PC but try to farm the two Giants in Black Gulch. They might drop the Giant Soul again.

You have to farm the souls from the Ancient Dragon, which means having to fight your way too him each time you reset the area.

It's not the two regular blacksmiths that trade boss souls for boss soul gear.

One is the guy that's petrified near a bonfire in the upper parts of The Lost Bastille (Straid of Olaphis)

The other is Weaponsmith Ornifex. You have to free her from a cell in the Shaded Ruins then find her in her workshop in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

Pretty sure they won't show gear for boss souls you haven't at least earned at some point. So you won't see the King Vendrick gear till you get the soul first.
