Why do people perfer DS1 over 2?

I have tried so hard to like DS1 but the only things I can find that I like are Solaire and the Combat. The Level Design is bad and the game feels so stiff to play.

EDIT: I have now started a new character and with some help I am now currently really enjoying the game. I still perfer DS2 but I am seeing why DS1 is so good now,

DS2 has life gems so you don't have to waste all of your estus. Life Gems are extremely common, as well as being cheap.

Yet another example where Shibuya didn't really understand why the Estus were designed as they were in 1. And yet another example of Dark Souls 2 failing.

Estus is Superior to life gems since it heals much faster and you can use it faster. Life gems are a great thing for if you get poisoned they balance out the damage if you ran out of moss or didn't have any at all. I almost exclusively use estus in a boss fight since with life gems you open yourself up for attack and will probably die.

Having finished both I can say that DS1 has a lot more bs stuff compared to DS2. Both games are good, but not masterpieces.

The thing is, DS1 enabled you to have twenty +3 flasks right at the start. It was way too op. Even worse with Humanity. Could farm it the moment you arrive at the depths.

I know. That's so OP, I cannot fathom why anyone would ruin a perfectly laid out game for himself like that. Really, but really OP at that moment. Standard Estus(or +1) will heal like 50-70% of your hp. +3 will heal you from 1% to 100%(at that point). From zero to hero. wtf

Estus makes you stand still for a second, while you can continue walking away with lifegems. You can buy infinite lifegems for 300 a pop, and 2 or 3 will restore your health. If you're getting hit that often, that you need to use Estus to save yourself, you're doing it wrong. Most of the bosses are so easy I would just pop a lifegem every time I got hit and I would be fully healed for the next hit.
This game would be MUCH better if it wasn't for lifegems, they make it even easier than it already is.

You walk slow as hell when using a life gem so it's basically not moving.
Not to mention you can do 2 or 3 chuggs consecutively so it's literally an instant full health. Level your agility and if your flask has like 8 charges it's literally OP.

Drink Estus on your way between bonfires, but finding time to chug in boss fights is harder. Easier to just pop a life gem and dodge an attack.

New players won't kill Pinwheel, because the path to him is too difficulty. Nobody would get to Anor Londo with the increased Estus count, unless they look up a walkthrough to see how to do that.

And it's good that they won't. Because otherwise, the whole game would fall flat on its face. Oh, and if they do it, they could(most likely will) also do the Fire Scythe nonsense. That combo would REALLY devalue the game's experience. Escaping Blight Town? Anxious? Dreadful? Scared?

...yeah right! 20 Estus plus a weapon that one shots most enemies just with its physical component! It's more of a "Massacre in the Marsh" than "Escape the Jungle".

Well, I even doubt that 20 estus would be enough for a real first blight town experience "blind", because it won't save you from falling or grab attacks and toxic ;)

5 years from now there will be a post, Why Dark Souls One is Better than Two......And there will be not a single person playing Dark Souls 2 by that point. Online will be completely removed. The government will order that any that say DS2 is better will be PUT TO DEATH. For an average person? I even think you're right. I never allowed for that...thing to grab me unless it blindsided me from a very cheap direction. Because I just took the offensive. Why would I watch them attack me? Especially in such a place.

Toxic? Just have like 5-6 Blooming Moss. Given the reputation of BT, what Crestfallen says and not to mention the name...I think it'd be a common sense to carry moss down there.

Falls? Sure, it happens to everyone. Even after going through there for like 20 times. But that's the reality of the place.
