[LORE] Is there any type of proof who the Old Knights actually are?
I briefly entertained that maybe they're Drakekeepers who gradually hollowed like the infantry soldiers, with their armor rotting as well. But comparing the two armors side-by-side completely dismisses that theory because the armor is so different. Any thoughts?

They worked for the same kingdom, so it's no surprise if they had similar armors.

In Iron King DLC, you can see bodies of old knights in certain places. Maybe they're Iron King's constructions?

No, the turtle knights are the ones created by the Iron King. The Old Knights are from the kingdom of Heide and appear related to the giant sentinels of Anor Londo.

Maybe the Drakekeepers just use an updated design of the armor? The description of the Old Knight armor pieces says it's so old it's impossible to identify and stuff. The overall similarities and presence of a dragon in Heide's Tower definitely speak in favor of this theory.
Forget that Dark Souls 2 is canon.

To be honest, it feels like only DS1 had a semi-coherent story and lore anyway, whereas in DS2 and 3 they tried to continue it but it feels like they just made stuff up as they went along. I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)
I'd definitely say the Old Knights were of a similar breed of that to the Giant Sentinels of Anor Londo, that is for certain, they're like Giants but more akin to the Human form, a "Lord" form, like Gwyn, Ornstein/Smough, etc.

Speaking of which, we don't know what race Vendrick is, or Gwyn and all the others. They're not giants, because giants are a separate race. Are they gods? They don't have the powers of gods, though, since they can be defeated by a mere hollow. It's all a mess anyway. :)

I think i read somewhere that the more powerful a being, the bigger it got. Hence why velstadt and raime are much bigger than normal humans, even though they are humans. Vendrick would fall under the same category.
The exception is the player, but then again, the game would get a bit weir if you grew constantly. (Interesting concept for a soulslike game though, just imagine the level design options.)

It's also possible that space is somehow distorted and you see enemies as bigger than they actually are, in accordance with their power and for visual effect. This would explain being able to wear armor and use weapons that were initially used by much bigger creatures than yourself. I think we're putting more thought into this than the developers...

The actual reason was probably: Oh, this giant knight looks awesome, added to the game.

Yeah, pretty much. :)

I'm using the old knight set for my playthourgh and it's awesome, also durability never a problem, had nothing break on me yet.

Also i consider lorewise the old knight set to be the best around,i mean,if it's still that strong after so much time that no written records exist anymore, back then it must have been a masterpiece of equipment.

Plus there's that wierd thing they do if they actually manage to break, plus they're pretty strong enemies if you underestimate them, including what they physically are.

Since Dark Souls uses template/presets that appear to factor a "race", it is obvious that Humans take on the common, small form both physically as Humans and small in the terms of the spiritual essence of Humanity.

My conclusion is that there are also variants to people like Gwyn, Giant Sentinels, etc, and that those the size around Gwyn, Artorias, Smough and Ornstein, are a type of "Lord" Race, in terms, they physically are not able to have Humanity, for they have moreso the more bigger form like Lord Gwyn, this can be supported with the large physical sizes of the Royal Princes in Dark Souls 3, while Lothric (Right one?) Is still small, this is likely due to his crippling sickness.

And then you have sizes between Giants and the Lords, which likely are a type of sub-race preset to Giants but are not fully considered so, and are likely the more rarest types of "races"

And finally Giants, which seem to have many types of varieties to their forms. It appears that Giants are relative to certain areas, Dark Souls 2's Giants are likely another variant to the Giants of Anor Londo, excluding the Giant Sentinels which boast a more Humanoid shape.
