Modding and Bans
So I have heard that DS2 has some big problems with baning people when it was still only on console. Something about hackers not getting caught hacking but if they gift hacked content to others then the people picking it up would get a ban. Not sure if this is still a thing anymore, but how safe is it to mod this game? I'm mostly into visual mods that change model textures or just improve how the game looks (would love to make the game's lighting like the beta demo). The only modding I'm unsure to be safe would be using something like cheat enguine to hack in some of those nice looking promotional reskins[darksouls2.wikidot.com].

On a side note, any great mods you folks would recomend installing? Not sure if there's anything like PVP Watchdog for this game since i think messing with dll's will get you banned.

Modding in Dark Souls is a rather restricted and a rather big No-Zone if you have common sense, even the "visual" mods.

Usually it's best not to take chances and to simply enjoy the game in it's natural state, also, the idea of hackers giving hacked items, basically:

Hackers can modify game files to create items that are not obtainable in the actual game, in short, cheated items, (Like +15 Weapons, even if the game files had those but never implimented) And basically, whenever you log in or out of Dark Souls, the server tracks your inventory and Soul Memory.

So if a rather.... Unusual and unobtainable item, forsay on example, a +15 Broadsword, is in your inventory if you log off, the server will usually detect this and take action.

This is also the same method used to monitor "Illegal disconnections" Regarding Dark Souls' rather sadly broken and unfair Invasion system, which gives no consequences to the Invader, when it should, if following Dark Souls' "Everything has consequence" motto.

I'd say mod at your own risk. You will get banned, you won't get banned. Nobody knows for sure. I've been using Reshade and Dead Zone Fix since the beginning and I'm still fine.
Here is basically all you need, you can search through and grab some more SotFS convertions:
www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/708/?
www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/687/?

About Reshade presets, you can search for yourself here:

Or you can look at my screenshots, and if you want my preset, add me and I'll give it to you :steamhappy:

On who's authority would you be banned in this game?

Fromsoft, I presume.

So are bans nonexistent in DaS 1 because pvp connections are generally handled Wulf's connectivity mod?
WickedRequiem Jul 21, 2017 @ 5:04pm
Well, I believe the mod bans people on its own (or the characters, rather).
But, no, I don't think there's an official ban/softban for DkS1.

There isn't. I'm confused as to why there are here. There are tons of mods for the first game, and plenty cheaters. Why ban people in this game?

Because this game uses a server for matchmaking, messages and the like. DaS1 doesn't, it's ALL P2P in that game.

Ohhhh. So that's why. Does that improve lag?

You can still get around it with family share like in ds3
No big deal honestly.

Get around dark souls 2 ban by playing it from a family share account? I thought it was an IP ban not an account ban.

Those are really cool. Thanks for the sujestion. Seems if i'm playing off of a shared account I won't have to worry about my main getting the ban. Might use my secondary account for working with mods in this game.
