Ran out of life gems early game and now can't progress

I havent unlocked any merchant that sells life gems yet, and i can't progress through the campaign without them. What am I supposed to do?
EDIT: I've got passed and unlocked unlimited life gems now, thanks for the help

Go to the Forest of Fallen Giants, there is an NPC merchant there who sells them. If you buy certain things from her, she will eventually pack up and move from her location in the forest to Majula. Once there, she will remain, and she sells an unlimited supply of lifegems.

dont forget to exhaust her dialogue and kill the last giant. she wont leave otherwise.

Lifegems are by no means neccessary to progress through the game, btw. You'll probably forget about them, after your Estus Flask got a couple upgrades.

Thats exactly why for a noob they are needed. Its gonna be a little while before he has more than 1 or 2 estus uses

melentia is one of the first merchants and she sells them if im not mistaken, also they are by no means needed but maybe search for the flask shards in the wiki, also its a good idea to restart if you are not too far ahead, with the knowledge you have of everything else, you should get hit much less and proceed with more resources than your first run

You can easily get around 3 uses early on if you look around. There's one shard in Majula itself even.

Go in Forest of the Fallen Giants, talk to an old hag there, kill the Last Giant boss and she should leave for Majula. After she gets there, she'll have infinite supply of them.
