It depends. Some people like to use them to acquire ng+ items like certain boss weapons in ng. Others like to use them to farm upgrade materials. It just depends on your build. Personally, I like to kill Scorpioness Najka twice to get the southern ritual band +2 ring which grants 3 spell slots, the Skeleton Kings twice for the blue clearstone ring +2 which raises casting speed and the also the lost sinner twice for flame weapon or the chaos blade.
Edit: also the Belfry gargoyles for cloranthy +2.

Bonfire Ascetics make the area you're in increase by one game cycle permanently, so if you're on NG, that area's difficulty will increase to NG+. This will carry over to your next game cycle, so if you visit that area again on NG+, it will actually be NG++. Ascetics cannot be used, while the area boss is still alive.

It will also reset that area with some limitations - metal chests will not respawn, that means some loot from metal chests, which have their contents changed on later game cycles cannot be obtained vis the use of Bonfire Ascetics. Chancellor Wellager at Drangleic Castle will also not update his inventory to sell you certain spells if you burn Ascetics, only on "real" NG++.

The reasons why you would use them are to farm items that respawn, to kill bosses dropping extra stuff on NG+, so that you can obtain these items without having to go through NG+, to kill NG+ only enemies for their stuff or simply for an extra challenge. Some also repeatedly use Ascetics to fight the same boss over and over to farm souls quickly (The Rotten farming is often used by speedrunners).

It's not recommend using Bonfire Ascetics to respawn enemies. You can temporarily join the Covenant of Champions instead for unlimited spawns.

Thanks for explaining but I quiet understood the effect of Ascetics before I felt the need to use it but I'll use the Ascetics to get the 4 lord souls and get those weapons.

Nope. You can't get this item by using an Ascetic. You have to actually go to NG+2.

You can farm Bonfire Ascetics from the enemies and NPC phantoms in the Chasm of the Abyss dungeons, so technically there are infinite bonfire ascetics.

Getting Majula to +4 to grab the Moon Butterfly set is pretty nice. Other than that it depends on what build you are going for. STR/Dark would be the one immediately before the Rotten for the Crypt Blacksword, Int would be the one closest to Freja for both the Moonlight Greatsword AND Crystal Soul Spear.

the first bonfire at iron keep so the smelter demon will respawn (also the enemies i nthis area are worth arround 120K souls per round with 10 rounds to clear everything) so you get the smelter armor set from the merchant in majula which has high defense and fireresistance for a way smaller weight than other heavy armors (and it also looks nice XD)

Isn't +2 enough? Maughlin sells the attire at +1 and you get the shield from his chest at +2?
