Saving Error
Hello

I can't save, load and play, I've read other posts like this, and I don't find a way to fix it.

The error message appears when i try to load or create a new character...

Anyone has found the wy to fix this?

Thanks!!

So did you try going to the save file location and check whether it's read only?
Go to X:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsII and see if you can open the folder and check that the .SL2 file inside is not "read only" by opening its properties.
Replace X with your system drive letter.

Also try to run the game as Administrator, you can find the game program in:
Steam folder\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin\Game\darksoulsII.exe then right-click and "Run as Administrator".

Thanks dude, I tried Run as Administrator but it doesn´t work.

I checked "read only" and it was not...so...should I mark this option?

Setting a file as "read only" does just that, the file can be read but not edited which is not what you want for a save file.

How odd, the only other thing I can think of is verifying your game data, you can do this by right-clicking the game on your steam library and selecting properties > local files > verify integrity of game data.

This is quite the mystery, I have been thinking about it and have come up with 2 more possible causes, This does sound rather far fetched, but your antivirus may be blocking the game from saving, add the games executable file to its whitelist/excluded files list, to do this please refer to the manual of whichever solution you use for security.

Second possible cause may be that your save data is damaged, try moving the .SL2 file out of the save data folder and see if your game saves normally, this will unfortunately mean that your save data is lost.

I also have this issue and there is absolutely no fix. I have uninstalled -> reinstalled, verified game files, disabled security options/firewall etc, went into cmd.exe and given myself admin permissions and made the file writable and yet no matter what I do there is nothing I can do to make this game playable past five minutes. I shouldn't have to learn more than a compsci degree student learns in 4 years that I did in 8 hours to get to a point to realize I'm just ♥♥♥♥♥♥, smited by god.
