Ashen Crawler
Hi,

on the wiki i saw that the only enemies dropping Bonfire Ascetics are the Ashen Crawlers in Old Iron King DLC. I never really touched it and dont want to rush it, yet i'm in need for some of the Ascetics, are they reachable on an early level (after Iron King of COurse) or do i have to go far into the DLC? is there a fast way?

Yes there is a faster way, enter the pact of Darkness the enemy of this pact drop Bonfire Ascetics, at least in the first version of DS2 drop, do not know if they will change this in the scholar version, but anyway go check.
The black NPC's is the abyss convenant gauntlets still drop ascetics at decent rate.

Right. But, it is the fastest way, as with the max item find it's possible to get 3-4 ascetics per run.

Also, late game you can get infinite ascetics by burning one at the bonfire before the Giant Lord in the memory in FotFG. Everytime you use an ascetic to respawn the boss there, it also respawns the ascetic in the part preceding the boss. It's very handy for farming souls.

In the first game with 1 million of soul memory, you can open the door of the sanctuary, in the NG +2 million of SM ng + + 3 million and thus follows.

As for lategame ascetic farming, I prefer the aldia's keep route. It requires you to unpetrify that one dude near the stairs who drops 2 ascetics. As a bonus you can collect 2 petrified dragon bones easily each run. It isn't reliant on RNGsus smiling upon you, yet effective and does not require a maxed rank in the abyss covenant (it works without max rank, but you'd have to pay an Effigy each time you enter a dungeon and that sucks).
You can either kill the invading aslatiel (drops a couple of souls and very rarely the probably most redundant weapon in this whole game), let him kill you after you grabbed your items or run upstairs so that he gets repelled and then feather out.

Just to clarify, it isn't actually your SM that matters. To open the shine of winter, you have to obtain a certain number of souls in exactly that playthrough. In NG it requires 1mio souls (so it's equivalent to your SM but really only in NG), it NG+ 2mio, in NG++ 3mio and so on.

Yes it surely is easy to get some lategame, but I'd like to have some not so late into the game :/ So how far are these ashen crawlers into the DLC? i remember running through the ice dlc for the Northwarder armor at lower levels.

^ this is your best option after getting the king's ring
before that the only effective strategy is farm human effigies from dogs at the bastille then spend them at the dark covenant for chances at ascetic drops

ashen crawlers require a dangerous long run and have a lot of hp while also having the ability to blow themselves up and deal damage that way

will their blowup count as kill? or will they only drop when slaughtered?

i've personally never stayed in that tower long enough to know for certain. you can totally go for it if you have a good drop rate set though. by the way, double check that you're in the champion covenant
