Earthen Peak, The place that never made sense to me
So one day after having finnally acquired every single item in the game after 50 hours of farming I decided to read some of the description of my items and suddenly it occured to me that Earthen Peak made no architectural, lore and visual sense.

"That creature, she was human, once, you know.
Hmm, In fact, she was wed to the Prince of that nearby castle.
But her husband, hmm, he had feelings for another.
The Princess was desperate, and sought eternal beauty.
Hoping that it would restore the Prince's, ah, affection, ha you see what I mean.
Before long, the Princess' ire transformed her into a monster."-Gilligan

So that would mean Mytha was wed to the Iron king's son, allright but in that case why does she live in a completely different castle from him ?

The Manikins are said to have been created by Mytha so you'd think her "castle" (using that term very losely, it looks nothing like a castle) would be mostly filled with various manikin variants and other 'puppet' type of enemies such as spookeletons.

However we instead get Grave Wardens ?! (these guys are supposed to guard crypts and keep the dead at peace, what are they doing serving Mytha ?! And worse of all the undead crypt doesn't even have those guys besides Agydane's 3 bouncers)

According to the wiki, the big hammer hollows are supposed to be steelworkers of the Iron king (then why are they not in the iron keep or the brume tower since these two places are where steel was being mass produced ?)

And of course how can we forget our favorite Desert thot jihadist Sorceress, who according to the description of their bra, are supposed to be a clan I guess of pyromancers that live in a desert in the kingdom of Jugo, so why exactly are they protecting Mytha and attacking us unprovoked when they clearly aren't hollowed ?

Oh also I'd like to point out that once we burn the windmill, the poison pool near the first bonefire, which isn't connected to any pipes or isn't dripping from any sort of source just disapears. Why ? I can understand that the windmill might've been pumping poison from somewhere into Mytha's chamber but that one poison pool was not connected to any sort of source, it shouldn't be disapearing like that.

And also, the covetous demon keeps being hinted by his boss soul that he might've been someone who wanted a waifu of his own... Just how exactly do you transform from a suicidal lonely human into Jabba the Hut ? Oh also why is there another one in Euleum Loyce ? (oh right yes I forgot Maldron has signed a pact with the devil, he probably summoned that thing just to annoy us even more)

hmmm i wonder if covetous isnt keeping mythra trapped there?
mythra is the one he covets, but she yerns for the prince.
she may live in iron keep, but came to that room we find her in to perform whatever ritual she thought would grant eternal beauty.
perhaps covetous' in his human form trapped her ther, and since her husband didnt liker her anyway, he never rescued her.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga
these are the mythologoical creatures they are based on, perhaps this will help too.
someone on reddit pointed out that all the people there have hidden faces, and perhaps thats why she allows them there.
manekin info: A fickle queen gave them life, and tore off their faces. How else could she forgive those who dared gaze upon her? The peculiar art of puppetry is a vestige of the two lost lands. A queen breathed life into these dolls with the very miasma that afflicted her poison-drenched bosom, so that she would have slaves to serve her temperamental will.[1]

These advanced puppets were given life by the Baneful Queen, and she uses them to lure unsuspecting fools into her traps. Once upon a time, the Manikins had heads, but the Queen ripped off their faces in a fit of rage. Watch yourself, or yours will be next.[2]
ialso read on reddit that perhaps the grave wardens are there, using those undeads to mine, as we see the same undeads all over the mines that we find in undead crypt, along with grave wardens.

The Desert Sorceresses came from the land of Jugo (Benhart's homeland) and have an enchanting appearance to catch people off guard. They were servants of Mytha before she ingested poison to seek beauty; even at present, they still follow the code of beauty, hiding their heads with hoods and wearing enchanting chestplates. They never hesitate to attack intruders who dare to stop Mytha from seeking beauty.
also i think their is alot lost in translation, and lots of story bits that are cut out later.
from the wikipedia on naga: Their domain is in the enchanted underworld... They are also often associated with bodies of waters — including rivers, lakes, seas, and wells — and are guardians of treasure.[4] Their power and venom made them potentially dangerous to humans. However, they often took beneficial protagonist role in Hindu mythology, Their eternal mortal enemies are the Garudas, the legendary semidivine birdlike-deity.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garuda
so the giant bird veihicle we ride in is a garuda.
and mythologically they are her enemy
long story short this could go on for a while.
:)
yea re reading im thinking earthen peak wasnt mythas castle until she became trapped there during her poisonous beauty ritual.
shes from the "lost land" mentioned in the manekin description.
also, dont forget that iron keep is supposed to have sunken into the lava, but elevator up, nagas, guardians of the underworld, ds2, a cross time/space/dimensional dream like after/alternate life... some things make more sinse when thought ofr from that sort of mythological source angle.

Its not supposed to.
Supposedly Seathe is to blame for a lot of the odd creatures and crap through some of the monster interactions and scattered lore but its a mess to piece it together since its so disconnected from the rest of the souls series.

i disagree, its not taht its so disconnected from the rest of the series, its just not a big fanservice handjob like ds3 was.
dont forget elements lost in translation, and japanese humor and story telling tropes being different than the west.
even kings field fromsofts older games has mentions of white dragon seath, ancient dragon gods awaiting a time of darkness etc.
heres how i personally think its connected, some of my own personal observations and what ive gathered from others.
1. time is distorted. keep that in mind. past/present/future/alternate dimensions are all plausable, in fact, presented lore elemnts. and geographically, the world is built on the branches of cosmic trees.
2. i think heides tower is a new new londo. not only does it superficially resemble anor londo in terms of architecture, but it has met the same fate as new londo, being long flooded and in ruins. it is possible that heides tower of flame, is a flame tribute to flame god flann who is mentioned in ds1. more convincing, is the presence of the "old knights" bearing a striking resemblance to the knights of anor londo, but theyre gold armor has now tarnished and decayed. remember the painted guardians and the 2 gargoyles guarding the rotating mechanism in anor londo? what do you see upon entering heides? 2 giant giargoyle statues wearing hoods VERY reminiscent of painted guardian hoods. then you got the nefarious not what it seems order, helmed by a madman who is powerful with illusions(targray projecting 3 of himself in ng+). then the clencher, a hollowed ornstein that has succumbed to the darkness, his once great elextrical power, now turned to dark magic. cooped up in his castle for so long that a dragon, his sworn enemy, sits right outside sleeping. *this is actually criticised often as not making sense, " why is there a dragon outside of the dragon slayers room?" its not only revealing a deeper story, but its humorous and sad IMO.
3.oolacille is farron keep/dark root basin. this is pretty much accepted as fact. but, i think that huntsmans copse is also, the same place.
its a forest, with deep chasms, with a pvp colliseum. sounding familiar? in this alternate dimension/timeline/whatever the honorific pvp duel area of oolacille has been turned into a twisted blood carnival, witha rather madmax appearance from the outside. this leads me to how farron keep became the poisonous hole that it is. You disabling the giant pump that is earthen peak, which has pumped poison from the grounds below for untold ages. it may have taken millenia to pump huntsmans copse dry, and may have taken millenia more for it to fill again. also notice the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rope bridge is not the original, there is a giant pillar descending into the dark chasms. similar to the giant bridge that runs through farron keep.
4. the royal rat authority is sif. not only is giant undead pupper obvious reference to the dog you killed in ds1, but its found in a deep dark cave not unlike where you find its puppy version in oolacille. perhaps in his undead state, he wondered to a cave, and was taken in by the rats.

5.various item locations are a clear nod to their corresponding locations in ds1. for instace the great club from blight town, is found on a ledge in a chest in the lower gutter.
many items return. the sunlight altar is found on the same pedestal, with the same little stairway and railway going around it, but instead of high up on a ledge as it is in ds1, it is now deep in a pit that has been excavated.

*edited to add more re heides.
