Okay...so Rapier, great! Just wanna clarify one thing though, counter damage means damage when both, opponent and myself, get hit simultaneously but my hit will just shred them away or it's like they are about to hit me but I got the 1st hit?
its all about their poise. you must check poise breakpoints and hyper armor
Ideal scenario: They attack, whiff and you attack while your opponent is still locked in his attack-recovery animation. If the weapon you attacked with has 130 counter damage, you get a damage bonus of 30%.
Is the enemy performing an attack animation during your hit?
Yes: you get counter damage
No: you get normal damage
The timing window is absolutely absurd, especially on the fights with big, lumbering bosses. As an example, if Sir Alonne does his thrust move and I dodge right and get to attack with a Rapier 2-3 times, I get counter damage on the first 2 Rapier hits; it's that long!
Seriously, counter damage is INSANE. Get a Rapier, get the Old Leo Ring, add a buff to the weapon and get ready to breeze through the game.
