Monastery Scimitar is still OP... if you know how to use it.
That thing is really good, almost overpowered in the hand of experienced players. It has pretty decent AR when at 40/40 STR/DEX, has very good moveset and has the parry frames that Curved Swords used to have before Calibration 1.10 back in 2014 (8 startup, 10 active and 51 recovery). I'm pretty experienced in this game and I can parry almost everything with almost every weapon/shield in this game, and I wanted to give this thing a try. What surprised me is the speed parry with it.
For those who don't know what speed parrying is, basically when you do an attack which is not an R2 and a Jumping Attack, your next action comes faster. When your next action is a parry, it becomes what is known as a "speed parry". So I sat down, prepared myself a cup of tea, opened CE and tested how many startup frames it has when speed parrying. Turns out it has... none. Yes, 0 startup. You can basically reaction parry everything if you do this right, like in the good old days.

How would a reaction parry work that way? It "just" sounds like a more powerful predict-parry tool to bait people with to me. The initial attack would effectively be the startup frames.

This makes baiting strategies a lot easier, that's why I say it's really good. You can adjust your baits and not parry at all if it didn't work, without leaving yourself vulnerable.

You didn't convince me. I always used medium shields or parry from Ultra weapons and never was able to "switch" to anything else.

I got bored of shields, I'm moving on curved swords atm. It's the only weapon along fists that I can't parry with.

you can't really react to any attack because they are too fast and parries have few start-up frames

With speed parrying you actually can with both parrying dagger and monastery scimitar.

I mean the various speedup stuff isn't exactly breaking news. Won't work against any good player. I'd just go for your back, either going for a backstab or trying to force a roll which I can punish.

Also, it really depends on the attack. You can't react to a bunch of quick attacks in time and some other fast attacks are seriously hard to react to, to a degree where it matters that you press a bumper and not a button on a controller.

I'm not gonna try to parry someone who knows how to play. But it's quite fun to troll people with this.
