F**k Shrine of Amana and everything it stands for
This place is a rage-quit indulcing nightmare to any melee player, myself included. Jesus f-ing christ. Who was the tormented soul that designed this? And as if that wasn't enought, Demon of Song is ridiculous. His/her attacks are slow and predictable, but just one is enough to leave you almost dead. Again, much harder for melee players. I hate this place so much. Its so beautiful and so horrible at the same time.

What build are you rocking?
Normally I snipe everything there.

Maybe it teaches you to always get a bow, regardless of the build. After that area, I'm definitely always getting the shortbow in Lenigrast's workshop. Darn those casters.

You don't need anything ranged in that area. Just run to the casters and dodge their spells by moving out of their way when projectiles are close to you. It's not difficult.
The only thing you need to do to kill Demon of Song is to bait him to attack you, run away from him and then attack him before he covers his face. Repeat until he's dead. He's not the easiest boss in the game for no reason.

Heh, pre-patch Shrine of Amana in original DS2 raped anyone who tried this. The only location to get nerfed, it was that bad.

Always have a ranged option, no exceptions.

Wait, what? How much Vigor do you have? And no, 20 is not enough. If Demon of Song almost kills you DLC enemies will one-shot you.

Daily reminder: if you're a strength build.

Grab the rebel's greatshield and infuse it with magic.

I had a +10 light crossbow with a few shock arrows. I know it isn't much, but I could (after many deaths) get through the Shrine and finally kill that ugly weird frog (I actually only died to him once, I was having more trouble with the path to the boss itself). I am never going back there again (except when I go get Vendrick's soul after killing him).

Watchdragon's shield, 90 magic def. Doesn't really block a large amount of health but hey better than nothing. Also rebel's great shield could be a nightmare for new players to get if they were to handle the salamanders first. My style is to get an alonne greatbow n max it to plus 10 and hold the wacthdragon in one hand just to block the soul arrows then quickly 2 hand the greatbow to get a kill on one of the archdrake spell casters

place sucks but never had a problem with the place honestly, all my characters where either str or dex with some faith. Rushing in gets you killed very quickly, also if you are having trouble get the ranged phantom, it will help you for like half of the level, and always level up vigor, never leave it low unless you know what you are doing, using magic resist armor helps too.

Poison arrows do all the works for you

Been suggested multiple times already.

I can't wait for OP to try Frozen Outskirts.

It's not too bad if you move slowly and snipe a lot. I used a heavy crossbow throughout the area and it made things much more manageable. You could also try to use one of those shields that lets you deflect spells by parrying, in fact I might try it next time just to see how it goes.

tbh, shrine of amana is absurdly easy for any melee untill NG +3
I wish best of luck for topic starter when he will eventually get to Frigid Outskirts with it's freaking double cat penetration.

There aren't even oneshots in NG+7, assuming you have 50 Vigor. Well, maybe the ogre grab, but either way almost nothing does that even though some enemies hit like a truck.
