Is there an objectivly "best" armor or armors?
I was personally using the heidi set almost my entire playthrough due to both relatively high stats for a medium weight armor and for fashion souls, recently swapped to Forlon set due to apparantly higher physical stats and some elemental improvements(Other than poision) for apparantly no real difference in weight.

Any "meta" armor set that just shines more than others?

Also keep in mind that higher equip load % = shorter rolls and slower stamina regeneration(both decrease linearly when equip burden increases). When fighting some heavy hitting bosses it's probably more useful to ditch all armor because damage mitigation can only remove a small portion of the damage but having more stamina for rolling and attacking is very useful.

If there is one thing DS2 does the best in the series then that is fashion souls! Find the look that suits you best, to hell with the meta!

as above - you shouldnt care about armor stats. Just find a set you personally like and want to use, check if its weight is optimal (below 40% or 70% cap - as you like) and eventually upgrade it to +10.
Cheers!

Yes there are objectively better armor combinations no matter what the people here try to tell you. Yes, having more (elemental) defense and meeting poise breakpoints does infact make a noticable difference. It's usually a combination of heavy and light armor.

Classical ugly af set is the cowwitch: Minotaur Helmet, Black Witch Dress, Havel's Gauntlets and Leggings.

This^. For the most part tho just wear whatever you like. Fashion>function. As long as you mix and match high poise heavy stuff and high elemental resistance light pieces, you should be good to go. Complete matching sets are generally much less efficient and effective.

for a sl 150 / 155 flynn ring build for pvp arena u should use:
minotaur helmet, llewellyn armor, alonnes gauntlets (the boss one) and velstadt leggins

it gives exactly 76 poise with 100 agility and the best weight to poise ratio and is still under the limit of the flynn ring to get the max value with 3. dragon ring.

it will tank most first attacks (R1) of a 1H weapon in arena.

76 poise withstands:

1H R1 from 25 Poise Dmg Weapons
1H R2 from 20 Poise Dmg Weapons

well anyways, keep that in mind if u want to play arena with that build. its good.

also to get skill over 9000 i advise u to use the black flamestone dagger in 2H with above mentioned armor pieces. now just get in range and spam the ♥♥♥♥ out of R1 and see how nearly everyone dies unless u meet a havelmonster and even they need to be careful.

(btw i know the thread isnt about it, just sayin cus armor functionality and such...)
