COMBAT SOUND EFFECTS...
is it just me or are the combat weapon sound effects pretty weak and crappy? Is there some sort of sound effects mod or fix? I mean, the story and everything else seems great and I want to play more, but those combat weapon sounds are just terrible.

I think they're ok, I mean I never said to myself "wow these weapon sounds are done extremely well" but I never disliked them either
I thought the same thing when I first played. The weapons sounded very light weight when compared to Dark Souls 1.
I've only played 45 minutes and only have the starting sword. Maybe that's the problem with the weak sounds?
Thrust sounds really dumb and some slashes are very overboard. Other than that I guess I never notice because I always use a greatsword. Dark Souls was definitely the best with weapon sounds. Dark Souls 3 also goes pretty overboard with the slicing noises.

Yeah, when it comes to combat feedback and sound design, DS2 is easily the weakest. It aint awful, though. Also, heavy weapons do at least feel pretty impactful.
RESOLVED: I fiddled with the control scheme. I switched the left and right attacks as described in this guide =>

So, now the sounds and KBM Controls are much better (at least playable).
