Enemys in Ds2 "die out" after you killed them often enough (correct me if im wrong but it should be around 12-15 times).
If you are in the Covenant of champions (found at the right, before you go from majula to heides tower) you can stop the "death" of this enemys but for a high price: you get 2x damage.
But people already found a way to use the reset without any problems; get the covenant go into the area and then abandon it again. And congratz you resetted the enemys and dont have the 2x damage problem
I don't thhik its as dramatic as 2x damage. But yeah, in the covenant, you take inceased damage (up to 50% from some enemies), enemies have more health, and ~20% damage resistance. Also increases enemy aggro range.

I can't answer it though.
For soul farming you rather want to be at a high bonfire intensity than part of the CoC. Farming normal monsters is inefficient anyway. It also seems like higher intensity equals a better droprate because I've been getting drops all over the place in higher cycles compared to the standard NG, lots of people experience the same.
You don't take twice the damage. Acccording to the wikidot which is usually right it's around a third more.
The trick is just retarded. Yeah, two more loading screens and a bunch of walking each time are definitely better than slightly beefed up enemies. Right. Couldn't think of any more efficient ways of farming.
And well OP... just kill the boss. Going in and out just for the few souls the mobs grant is extremely inefficient farming. Go in, grab the ascetic on the way, run through, kill boss. The cannonballs will usually kill all the mobs in the meantime. Over half a million souls per run and they take like 5 minutes each.
I've restarted the game; I'll see if this still is the case.
Anyway, this is only a minor problem, if it is indeed a problem. I was just trying to make sure there wasn't some mechanic at work I didn't know about. And the answer to that question seems to be 'no'.
