Heide Knight with spear
Hello there,

How is legit that normal mob is stronger than any boss in game without DLCs? I beat game 3 times, most bosses like 8-20 times, I still struggle to defeat the Heide spearman in Heide's tower of flame before wyvern.

I can usually kill him easily using shield, but however much I try, i can't defeat him without it and it feels lame when I kill him with it.

Bosses are extremely easy for me already. I beat every boss in 1 try mostly. This guy can kill me 1000x but I still can't defeat him. Any tips?

He's much easier than swordmen. Bait his attack, try backstab. he's very vulnerable after his attack combo, as his weapon is really high stamina-consuming.

Thanks for quick reply, didn't work, when I tried to backstab him, he did some kind of counter-backstab swing and staggered me. I have no problems with 1v1 swordsmen, they are easy if you have some rapier-like weapon and use heavy attack, you can stagger-lock them this way, and they are also very easy to parry. Only thing tricky about them is their, what I call it, "drunk-like attack" when they randomly swing around them to break your pose. I tried dodging spear guy to left, didn't work, to right, didn't work, straight, didn't work, back, worked, he jumped, staggered me, killed me. I've run out of ideas.

The backstab is after his three hit combo, he hits the ground like a Manakin from the poison tower does and is pretty easy to backstab. Also why does killing him with a shield feel lame? The mace guys in the same area have wide attacks that should be just as hard to dodge and just as easy to nullify with a shield.

Mace guys are third easiest enemy I know in that area, first is old knight w/ shield & second is Dragonrider. For mace guys you mostly don't even have to roll. Just stick as close to them as you can, when they start swinging combo roll 2 attacks and run for the big swing. For their over head attacks just sidestep, they won't hit you as long as you are very close their body.

He is only mob in the whole BASE game I have problems with. Old Dragonslayer boss is ezy when compared to him for me. I'll try to bait that combo from him, it's the one where he extremely fast swings left & right and then jumps, right?
He's annoying. Super fast and hits like a truck. I just pancake him usually. Backstabs do work w/o a strength weapon.

I agree they are pretty tough because of how fast they they can retaliate and the range. There are a couple different methods i use depending on which weapons used.

I find it's a good strategy for weaker weapons that can't break his poise to just backpedal while guarding and wait for the combo where on the third hit he does a leaping thrust towards you. When he's about to do that jump you roll towards him to the right and do 1 or 2 regular hits then roll away. Having a fast roll and being mindful of range while attacking is important as well. Shield also helps a lot.

For a melee weapon that has decent range and can "guaranteed" break his poise you can stun lock him when he gets in range until you have just enough stamina to retreat to recover.

Like Neil said 2h mace power attack is very good. I just don't like doing that, feels kind of cheap.

In conclusion I've lost over 100k souls on these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but I've learned a lot in the process. I recommend ranged or magic to ensure 100% victory.

i have a fast and reliable way to kill him xddd
lure him to that lil bridge-like area before the stairs and use a tower shield to make him bounce off to his death :v

When he uses his combo attack of awesomeness when he jumps at the end, that's basically your "Free hit" moment. They're pretty easy IMO

And please don't tell me they're harder for you than the deeks with hammers in dragon aerie -_-

Well, I never had any problems with dragon aerie, if not talking about getting lost.

I had a problem with Shrine of Amana for a while, cause of high number of ambushes combined with casters. Got over it after like 20 mins.

So guys, I just managed to get quite simple tactic.

Get dagger.
Go meet this ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Wait for his 1st 2 side attacks in 3-combo.
On jump roll behind him.
Backstab for 1/3 of his health.
Repeat.
