Parry and standing riposte
So i have been training my parry "skills" and after some time i found that you could riposte an enemy before he take a nice comfy seat on the floor, so i just wonder if this is a common knowledge thing. i ask this as i have not really utilized parrys before.

Dunno about how many know about standing riposte. I can Imagine that those who like to parry a lot did it a bunch of times without thinking about it.

It's not really practical anyways and doesn't seem to work for PvP at all.

just have to be quick to get it in, and it does more damage if you can do it
Both JellyPuff and Bobby Digital are correct.
It deals more damage but you gotta be faster to perform the riposte.
I've never seen it in PvP so I assume is impossible to do it with a human player.
And yes, parrying in general is kinda bad in this game, sure it looks cool, but the risk is greater than the gain.

Indeed. If you've played or seen the first game you'll know that Parrying and riposting is 100% a thing.
The only difference is that once you parry in 1, you can riposte immediately rather than having to pause for a moment before the attack.

Its well known but, most shy away from parrying because the high cost if you mess up. It does do slightly less damage but, I kind of all ways viewed it as a "Look at what I can do" thing.

It doesn't deal more damage, it deals the same damage to guardbreak, so "fast" riposte would be beneficial for halberds, greathammers, for example

From my own Testing, with minimum stats to Dual wield 2 Falsions (13 strength 19 Dex) While testing this very same thing. on the Saiyan Knight that Guards the Aldias Keep King Gate. While testing Back stab, Parry, and guard breaks. I concluded that With the +10 shadow dagger, with out any additional buffs other then my stats. the Standing Repost on the Shadow dagger did roughly 10 more damage, then when the Saiyan Knight was on his rear when I reposted.

Nothing to celebrate but, extra damage is extra damage.

Its easiest to do with Faster weapons like, Daggers and Katanas.

Depends on connection but it's still not worth if You're not in a hurry as if You will be too slow You'll do regular R1.
And it is very, very situational, like, when You're getting gankbanged by 3 phantoms or something.

And! It deals same damage as regular riposte or guardbreak. As, for those that did not knew it, gaurdbreak is exactly the same thing as standard riposte.

There used to be shadow riposte but it was fixed.

If you say do a guard break riposte in a parry moment, i did one time in PVP, but with enemies like Syan's Knight is easy to do. Of corse the weapons have diferents damage with the ripostes, a Spear like the Stone Soldier Spear has low damage in parry riposte, but in guard break has more, but the Straight Sword and Katanas for example, upside down XD

thank you all for replying and making it a bit more clear for me.

Standard ripostes and guardbreak/standing ripostes are NOT the same thing... they deal different damage and whether one or the other deals more damage is a case by case issue. I believe it's weapon class or animation related.

In DS3 it is so good to favour defending player and it is best to taunt enemy in hope he will lose his temper and attack first. Bad parry sucks. Too good parry and player who attacks first is at disadvantage.
