How many times do you have to kill an enemy before they stop respawning?

I heard it was 12, but I have doubts about that because I have enemies that have stopped respawning when I could've sworn I had only killed them like 6-10 times. Unless I am really bad at keeping track, it seems rather inconsistent.

It's exactly 12. The exception are some enemies, like the necromancers at Huntsman Copse, who don't respawn at all.

Burning a Bonfire Ascetic resets the counter and being in the Company of Champions covenant gives unlimited spawns, which also freezes the respawn counter (e.g. you have 6 spawns left and kill one enemy while in the CoC. The enemy will still respawn 6 times, once you leave the CoC).

Oh, guess I'm just really bad at keeping track lol. I never actually made an effort to count, it just didn't seem like I had reached 12. Guess I just gotta pay more attention.

You seem like you might know this, if you exhaust the dozen respawns, then join CoC, do the enemies reappear while in the covenant, or are they still gone? Guess I could easily just load up a file where I've cleared them and just join CoC for a sec, but I'm lazy, and if it's up here, other lazy people won't have to look and see.

They respawn while in the covenant, but will be at one NG higher regarding difficulty, iirc.
So, if you exhaust the spawns and join CoC, they will be there again, yes.

CoC and NG are independant difficulty increases, but yeah they're going to respawn and have the buffed stats that everything has when you're in the CoC.
