Good rapier upgrades?
Hi all,

Wondering, while we wait for the server, what some good upgrade weapons to progress from the regular old rapier would be? I have a slightly higher level hexer, but this dex-based character is really helping me catch up on the saved game I lost.

My goal is an ice rapier, but I doubt anyone in the low hundred thousands SM has one to trade (I'd welcome one if you have one!), and Drangleic Castle is a long ways away for me. The only rapier I know of coming up early is Ricard's, but I guess it could be any dex weapon.

Appreciate your help. Losing all of my work was hard, but at least the dexer will recover it and I can use all that gear I enjoyed in NG+. :)

Just use the regular Rapier bought from Lenigrast until you got the Ice Rapier. Since most enemies are weak to lightning in this game, i'd infuse it with that. Having a back-up weapon, like a mace (12 STR, you need 13 for the Ice Rapier anyways) wouldn't be a bad idea to bash stuff, which resists a Lightning Rapier.

Most other thrusting swords don't infuse so well and/or aren't as good at lower DEX. Estoc would be another option (also bought from Lenigrast). It would be a little weaker than the Rapier (at 13STR/18DEX), but has a neat heavy attack (pierces shields, 1HR2 is a horizontal swing).

I suppose I could do that, but sticking with the same old mundane weapon for the most of the game feels a little ... meh, from a role-playing standpoint. Again, if anyone out there has an ice rapier to trade, you'd make me a very happy person. Friend me! :)

In the meantime, I guess I can try and see if lightning on the rapier helps my experience at all. Got the boltstone to do so, after all.
Please don't become an ice rapier user AND a hexer, too much cancer in one build, why don't u use something that not EVERY damn tryhard in the game uses? How about a roaring halberd? A dark infused great scythe? Silverblack spear? Lucerne? Wrathful axe? Old whip?
So many unique weapons and playstyles and people ALWAYS go for the poke poke dark bullcrap smh

I mean all thrusting swords play pretty much the same. The Ice Rapier won't feel different. It's special attack is meh.

LMAO triggered. I understand Ice Rapier but why hexer? Spells in general aren't that good outside of random invasions. And i'm pretty sure OP is mostly doing PvE atm.

I'm not a rapier user and a hexer in one character. They're two separate characters. :)

I did also ask for other interesting weapons for a pure dex character, to be fair to myself, but keep in mind that the rapier is for efficiency in catching up with all that I lost in my prior save. I'm all PvE, so it harms no one.

Oh pure DEX, i though Rapier/Hexer at 13/18.

Well, the Spider Silk ain't bad if you pump DEX. It's the longest thrusting sword in the game and it has an interesting, albeit kind of useless, special attack. You can get that as soon as you've killed Freija. Espada Ropera is a straight upgrade from the Rapier and it's heavy "attack" is a decent parry, but it's very late-game.

Edit: Also don't infuse then. RoB+Flynn's+Leo Ring and you basically become god in PvE.

Why would I be triggered?
I just can't understand why everyone plays the same build over and over and over. Yeah its good and everything but how you don't get bored of using the same stuff?
Even if its for PvE I feel like all the weapon and build variety is wasted when u use a hexer+ice rapier like everyone does.

The thing is, OP hasn't played the same Ice Rapier build over and over...i think? Point is, not everybody who played this game ran an Ice Rapier or thrusting sword setup before.

And if they think it's fun, then why the heck not?

The weapons I mentioned earlier are for hexer, if you want something for pure dex I'd suggest shotel, manikin sabre, falchion, drake wing ultragreatsword, murakumo, stone twinblade, blue knight's halberd, partizan, mirrah greatsword, drakeblood greatsword, loyce greatsword, umbral dagger, ashen warrior sword, puzzling stone sword, Flamberge, eleum loyce.

If you're up to dropping any of those for a relatively low SM dexer, then I would be glad to try them! Most are out of reach though, and I recognize a few as being DLC material. :)

Well, the roaring halberd isn't so far off for the hexer. I'll try it for them.

The dex character is really the one catching up to my old save's content, though, so I'm trying to push them forward. Any help I can get counts, so I had to ask. :)
