The spiders you are referring to are only present on your way to Duke's Dear Freja. I won't link you images since you can't handle those, but you can check out those mobs to see if you can tolerate them, as you tolerated other arachnides in DS games.
The mobs include :
- The Duke's Dear Freja
- Spider Drone
- Ducal Spider
As you said above, you can "skip" The bossfight entirely by accumulating a total of one (1) million soul memory per NG cycle. How hard it is depends on you. I never did it, but it's quite a grind, and I do not know how much you can approach that value by doing all the other Great Ones.EDIT: To be more precise about the skip : to continue the game, you'll need to go through the Shrine of Winter. The door opens on two conditions : either accumulate 1 million soul memory in the NG cycle, or kill all four Great Ones, similarly to DS1 and DS3 :
What you can do is kill the three required, get to one million soul memory, and pass the Shrine.
it's not as creepy as the aldrich one I think, and the size is quite similar, not that big, but yeah freja resemble to spider more, and the spider mobs is quite a lot on a same place.
You can use torch and they won't get close or attack you though (except the drone).
Not trying to encourage you to go there, but the thing is, there is an NPC that deals with boss souls weapons in the area (you don't have to go further to freja and the dark room full of spiders), and you'll miss a lot, unless you have some friend to get them for you

oh I forgot, you'll encouter freja before you enter the area
When you spend 10,000 souls at the old lady's shop (you find her in the Forst of Fallen Giants and she moves to Majula after defeating the Last Giant and exhausting her dialogue) she gives you the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +1 which increases soul drops by some percentage, it speeds up the process quite a bit. Get it asap and wear it all the time. It doesn't affect consumable souls, but you gain a lot of regular souls anyway and the souls you spent for it will be "back" quickly.
