A with a controller, no idea what key on a keyboard.

The default mapping is more or less impossible to use, so I'd recommend switching over to WASD to move and E to interact (R for item, Q to change main-hand weapon, space to dash/dodgeroll, F to twohand, tab to lock on to enemies, ...)
I played dark souls 3 way too much, attacking reveals illusory wall in that game. But thanks anyway
Pressing a button to interact with illusionary walls in this game is easily one of the more valid criticisms.
