´do you have the 3rd bonfire called ´Eygil´s Idol` ?

In the room where lightning shortbow+1 lies around, there´s a ladder that leds you to it.

Once you recognize all the tells for all his attacks it can be very easy to "dodge" his attacks. I put quotation marks because you never roll on this boss fight. Just do a quick sprint past certain attacks. The only one that has even screwed me over on his fight is the Wrath Of Gods type AOE. But I imagine its a mix of physical and fire damage so if you have the gyrm greatshield you're fine if you can predict the attack (that shield has 100% physical damage reduction AND 100% fire damage reduction. It's amazing, even if it's ugly as hell).

I also raged today with the other half of the Iron Keep, but The Old Iron King went easily. :)

No, actually you roll through everything and then it gets super-easy. Roll into the swipe-directions, roll left or right when he slams a fist down, same when he slams down both fists, his AoE has a long enough tell and startup-window that you can easily run away in time. The laser-beam is easy to dodge (just do it late, it's got some nice tracking and will adjust to your new position when you roll too early) and very punishable. The firebreath is a bit tricky to learn, but you can always roll through it by rolling between the little flames at the right time.

The shield is quite a trap because the knockback can easily push you into the lava and you lose a ton of stamina so that you won't be able to counterattack the 3-4 times you could after a roll.

Oh and never lock on in that fight, unless you're a caster (or archer). It makes the fight a lot harder.

If you need help just add me, btw if you stay close to him it's quite easy to dodge his attacks. You don't need all those defences to fire - even tho he does also physical damage.

My first time fighting the Iron King I also suffered a lot and raged from him knocking me in that pit of lava over and over again and I also did not know about the ridiculously close third bonfire at the time. However, the best strategy I can think of is this: with or without a summon, his hardest attack to dodge is his fire breath. So instead of dodging it just walk out of the way. I tend to stay to the other side of the area opposite from where you entered and when he does that attack you can run and hide in a little edge of land in the back (if that was no specific enough it is the spot right by the gray fog blocking the way to the primal bonfire until you beat the boss) and 98% of the time it will not hit you (I say 98% because I have been hit once by it in that area) and then quickly run back close to him to see if one of his physical attack animations will trigger so you can dodge and get hits in. Important note if you use this method to avoid his fire breath I repeat that it is vital to run back close to him otherwise he will trigger to spam the fire breath over and over because you are so far from him in the almost 100% safe spot, so that is why you need to bait out a physical attack, but there is still random risk he might do the flame breath again so you will need to rinse and repeat this method until he does a physical attack. It seems a bit mundane, but it works very well.

He also has different height levels of the fire breath, and sometimes he will lower his head right to the edge of the arena as he does it and you can actually run to the left side of his face (your right if you are facing him directly) and melee his face for nice damage without getting hit. This is risky though so do it at your own risk.

One more thing about the safe spot is that sometimes instead of spamming breath if you are just 100% camping there without trying to bait out his physical attacks he might do his hand laser beam attack which can reach you there or more often he will dive in the lava and reappear closer to you making the fire breath safe spot obsolete once he is that close. So trying a ranged 100% camp cheese method in that safe spot is I would say more risky than baiting out his physical attacks.

Hope this helps you unless you already beat him.

I second that you do not need those fire defenses because if he is hitting you with fire, you are taking a lot of damage or dying either way no matter what things you are using to raise your fire defense (because his fire damage is so high) unless using the 100% fire block shield and even that might not work due to stamina being drained quickly from blocking the fire breath.

Try to stay under 71% of your equipment load, you don't need to have armors (they're kinda useless in this game x') but to dodge and good luck! If you don't succeed I'm here for help. I totally agree with raptortobi. And, if this could help, don't lock the enemy. Face him, give him 1/2 attacks and roll back, be aware of your stamina. HIs attacks are really slow, learn the pattern and roll to the win (?)
