I HATE, Aava!
I have always preferred the DLC's, over the base game.. Its way more Dark Souls feeling.. But often, all theyve done is fill rooms with gank squads combined with casters/marksman (all of which have perfect mid air correctiong and auto tracking).. I remember having a little bit of trouble with Aava last time I was here, but this time, Im finding it impossible.. Every hit takes 75% of my hp, it jumps back and forth across the map, yet somehow still leaving no time to estus, and its swipes hit in a 180 degree arc from its front, to back.. I have 100 agility, but have never been a fast roll type of player anyway.. I go heavy armor, weapon, and shield..

Needless to say Ive tried everything for this fight, and still just cant get it done.. Im at 1.9mill soul memory, and havent seena single summon sign, nor has anyone taken mine.. Obviously I do much better with a summon here, but the Brawler ♥♥♥♥♥ npc half he time stands in one spot, and doesnt help.. Ive gotten the damn cat down to just below half health once, but once her attention remains on me, its over.. Ive tried going solo to learn the moveset over again, and it doesnt seem to matter.. Its almost as if i must play it as every attack leaves a full circle aoe around her..

And that stupid crustay magic she does.. Is the ONLY place to avoid it, behind her? Because it even hitting me beside her now..

Shew! Done venting...

You fatroll go complain elsewhere... The boss is awesome, well one of my favourite, it gave me that Dark Souls 1 "git gut" feeling I missed so much, I REKT all bosses in the game, but this one has tight timing, yet when you master it it becomes a piece of cake.
Get that greatshield away, not gonna save you against this guy, well against anyone really, just roll, it's not hard.

"That stupid crystal magic"
You mean this easy as ♥♥♥♥ to dodge spell? Just run left or right while keeping yourself at distance...and run...

This boss isn't a problem, you just suck...I mean sorry but you admitted you fatroll+Greatshield, no one can help you here.

Punch the boss after his double punches (which you an dodge by rolling in the opposite direction). Don't rush the boss, he'll come to you.

Oh and "leaving no time to Estus" You mean aside from each time he casts his crystals?

Do you fight barely visible Aava or something? 😸

Anyway - did you beat her yet? I can place my sign.

No, i hadnt beat her.. I gave up for now, and went onto the poison dlc area..Im assuming my hp is a bit low, at 1800, like I said, she takes me out in 2 hits.. Ill end up beating her.. Just needed to vent.. Was a bit annoyed that some of the hits were landing on me, when I had dodbed properly.. For instance rolling into her jump/lunge attack, her back legs actualy hit me.. Standing behind her, with the Brawler at her front, She attacks thye summon, and I was still hit.. I just dont like feeling like I HAVE to play it a specific way to beat it.. Completely takes the point out of Souls imo.. But again, its nbd.. ill get her eventually! Thanks for offering to help :)

you have 100 agility and a greatshield.
choose one over the other never both, you waste points.

1. option: shield over agl

go to the old red clothed hags in the beginning and bring them a soul vessel (if you dont have one look it up in the wiki ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) take as much points as possible from adp and put them somewhere else (maybe vig e.g.).
during fight: use your shield to block normal melee attacks or evade. Be warned: he deals heavy stamina damge, so make sure you put your shield down when he doesnt attack, raise it about 1,5s before he attacks. If you have no stamina left to attack, try 2h the shield, it will cost less stamina(more stability) to block you also can pit on the ring from the 2nd dlc that highers stability of shields, only pull out your weapon when you want to attack, only attack once and play safe.
dodge only the grab and as i said evade as much as you can, more stamina, more survivability

2. option: agl over shield

dont even equip a shield, besides the stamina regenerating ones and always 2h your weapon. if you dont run a strengh build use all point you dont need in strengh(keep as much as you need to wield the weapons you like) in other stats(maybe vig e.g.). try to dodge always in the last sexond possible, dont predict attacks and roll early, this boss telegraphs his attacks heavily, he will catch your rolls if you predict. never hit more than twice and even this is a risk. always roll in direction the attacks is comming so your hitboxs interferes as short as possible with the attack when rolling. learning is crucial here, you will not master dodging attacks if you dont practice.
Rolling is better in a longterm sense, since you get used to it and you normally have more stamina available, blocking normally costs to much.

Here is your problem.
Remove everything (yes, all armour and shield) exept main weapon and rings and just lean to roll. You will be fine after several attempts.

Aava was my guard breaker too.... the boss when i finally throw my shield to the darkest corner of my inventory box and started to roll everything. And after this my life become so much easier!!!

Just roll into every attack... 99 Agility is enough. After every attack(-combo) you've sucessfully dodged you get free hits or an Estus-zip. It's a quite rewarding boss - you dodge well, you get your openings.

On my agile, light character, I would do that.. But Im building this character for heavy armor.. He still has medium roll capabilities.. I try not to change the character during a playthrough, it just cheapens the experience.. Like respeccing, it just feels like cheating.. Role playing, i guess you'd call it.

I do 'like' to spec this way, but with this boss blocking isnt an option, so Im not using the shield(opted for stamina regen).. 1 block seemed to drop almost all stamina, if not all..

This is what I was trying.. The final straw was when I twice rolled properly, but was damaged by the hind leg.. Ill beat her.. , Was just extremely frusterated.. Its best to walk away for a bit when Im THAT frusterated.. Just ends up throwing myself against a wall, and making dumb mistakes..

She was much easier on my hexer, and my agile dual wielding characters..

Yea I dont even bother with those 2.. I like Souls for its fairness.. this particular one, just seems to throw alot of enemies at you at once along with casters/archers ion the back round..Poise seems hit or miss, and everything not a hollow has high damage.. Using Heide Knight set all +7/8 and still get stunlocked by the dumbest ♥♥♥♥..

The DLC was worse in the original version, it was full of red phantoms in NG+

The funny thing is that the DLC hasn't been touched in SotFS regarding enemy-changes.
