Provided that the weapon has similar scaling for both Strength and Dexterity, you'll get more AR from the same points allotted to Strength than from the same amount allotted to Dexterity.
E.g. a C/C stock Longsword will do more damage with STR 20 DEX15 than it will do with STR 15 DEX 20.
This doesn't apply to fist weapons, which may not have similar scaling, but it's a good thing to keep in mind.
This is absolutely correct. First priority should be STR.
You want lots of Strength first, no matter which fisticuff you use, all of them scale better with Strength, but still decent with Dex. The Bone Fist needs 45 Dex to be powerstanced, kinda nasty, but you should aim for 40/45 in that case and then still give Strength a priority till you reach 50.
It's not "maximum" punching power but any points past that will give increasingly diminishing returns.
I... suppose you could go 50/50 if, for whatever reason, you want that symmetry though.
Worth noting that this is also pretty good for Caestus weapons. Which you'll be wanting one in your left hand, anyways, for powerstancing with Bone Fist.
If you want to powerstance the bone fist on a level 150, do 40/45 and use a rob/flynn getup (because you can't afford any vit anyway). If you are going for higher levels, you can probably move from 40 to 50 str eventually but get everything else you want first.
I'd like to add that while you do the special attack (HADOUUUKEN) the Caestus will take a hit in term of durability, but yeah you'll pack quite a punch with those, it may be worth trying to have 2 bone fists, with fire astethic or like me have a friend to trade with, just so durability doesn't become a real problem in PVE.
Fun fact: you can powerstance the bone fist with your bare hand if you have the vanquisher seal. Because punching things bare hand is ALWAYS satisfying. That's how Andre felt when I punched him by miss clicking :(
