Parry trainer
Hello, I need someone SKILLED who can train me in parrying (small/medium shield). I know the timing of the buckler and target shield, but I miss the timing for setup parry and back hop parry. I saw a bunch of guide on YouTube and they were helpful, but no one ever made a tutorial on the timing of the back hop parry.

The timing is the same as parrying normally. Simply after a backstep

why do you want to parry? For PvE, its inconsistent, attacks often have long delays so its hard to time, most bosses are not parryable. Not worth it at all.

For PvP, parrys are easily baited and punished, or simply avoided by not being predictable. The best players do not rely on parrys. You are better off focusing your time on spacing, unlocked play, avoiding panic rolls, roll punishing, etc.

Best guy that i can point you to is the Pursuer. You can practice parrying him in the Lost Bastille.
Greatsword-armed Syan Knights are a good option too.

Since you're good with Special timing parry, try a fast-parry Small Shield parry next (e.g. Small Leather Shield). Medium shields have almost half the parry frames as a Buckler, so don't just rush to them.

The startup on those is the same as special parry, but the parry frames are lesser and recovery is faster. In, say, parrying a Greatsword Syan Knight, it works if you parry just an instant before his sword hits you.

Invincibility frames on backstep and role have no startup. They begin the moment you press the button, so you have to time it that way.

The thing about parries is that they are mostly a tool of convienience. If you go into PvP with a mind that you HAVE to land a parry, you won't have too much success. A parry that you decide instantly upon with have a much better chance of working.

I need training on PvP parries like setup and backhop, not the timing. I parry pursuer with UGS and Syans with hilt parry.

Backsteps have a startup.
Simple example, reading the wiki-article aside: When you get hit 2 times by a fast weapon in PvP, you can roll out easily, but you cannot backstep the attack.

Yep, backstep i-frames have a startup similar to how parries have one. (Note, not the same amount of startup frames)
