Btw: Dont use Soul Geyser, is not good even against bosses.
The highest int requirment socercies are garbage. Don't bother.
I don't know anything about hexes, but I've heard dark orb spams well.
spells struggle in the dlc. Casters can get by by using infused weapons and spell buffs.

Well, Dark Orb is pretty much the bread and butter of hexing for PvE.
For PvP, Great/Resonant Soul is better but it costs souls (100/500 for Normal/Great) to use so you're gonna have soul memory problems in the long run.
Climax is absurdly broken in PvP, costs all of your souls (though it only needs 5000 to reach full power) and everyone will absolutely hate you for using it, and I don't mean that as a good thing either.
I ran out of spice getting soul geyser and focus souls down to 50 int so I could use them! I ended up farming a bunch to get it done. So many trips through belfry sol!
I've tried focus souls in PvP - I didn't like it a lot. Its slow and it will miss if they roll any other direction than towards you or away. I may just need to give it another go.
I prefer things like soul vortex -> soul spear or homing soul arrow -> soul spear
but my caster builds are not dedicated casters, because melee is king.
I mosty use casting to apply pressure and set up melee attacks
Climax, obviously. (Great) Resonant Soul for less trolly purposes. Dark Orb spam is just too good anyways.
Sunlightspear is actually really strong, but so obvious to cast in PvP and only available once per character. Wrath of Gods, but it's in melee-range. Great Lightning Spears are decent, you can stack them, but nothing too crazy.
All the AoE-spells can be crazy good when they hit bosses multiple times. They're, obviously, also pretty good in PvP, but have that bit of randomness that tend to leave you open to backstabs.
Scraps of Life, Heavenly Thunder, Fire Storm/Fire Tempest/Chaos Storm...
of course, it's random, so you're just as likely to get screwed over by bad cast as your opponent is by a good cast.
And I think Scraps of Life might be the least useful option out of these, but I don't know if that's true or not since I haven't used it yet.
EDIT: Maybe I should try reading the last paragraph of TrueArchery's post before posting.
Forbidden Sun is really powerful as well, dealing around 1000 damage from a fully upgraded pyromancy flame. It also has a VERY short cast time, making it perfect for surprise attacks against an enemy locked in an animation.
