-> nvidia control panel -> change resolution -> adjust (under the list of available resolutions) -> create userspecific resolution -> hor:1920 vert:1080 refreshrate:60 -> test (no issues). Afterwards i enabled these profile, changed into the game and tried switch to fullscreen and see, it worked.

I had a similar issue and took Fred's advice, though his advice didn't exactly fix my issue but it did steer me in the right direction. I've got an Nvidia card so under the control panel Fred mentions under Adjust video color settings, what took away the white washed out screen was clicking "With the Nvidia settings" under "2. How do you make color adjustments?". It was originally selected as with the video player settings, but unchecking that returned the screen to its former glory.
