Do wear the Prisoner Set to perfect your Flintstones cosplay.
(and now i know what build i'm going for next......)
Re-playing the game for the first time since DS3 with a pure muscle build.
I see you haven´t mentioned the gyrm greathammer?
High power, good scaling and the first 1H R2 is a magnificient sweep that covers a wide area quickly.
For boss killing I love the King UGS, technically a sword, but it does crushing damage and has a greathammer/greataxe moveset.
Mega-powerful and does unusually good poisedamage. AND has ca 80% phys block and good stability, so you can even block with it. ^^
Surrounded by small mobs? You can´t actually beat the common Greatsword, believe me, i´ve tried, but nothing clears a room like the 1H R1, I´ve come to call mine the Street Sweeper, after the shotgun, which would be far worse than this blade at sweeping streets. ^^
Red rust sword has good moveset and S scaling in strength.
And don´t get too hung up on the letter of the scaling, the game can be a little odd with those.
Fer an example, I currently have Str 50 on my bloke, I have a Craftmans Hammer and a Red Rust sword.
The hammer has a B scaling and the sword has an S. So the sword should be far better, yes?
Not quite, the sword does 43 more scaling damage than the hammer, but the hammer has 45 points higher base damage than the sword.
So at this point the hammer is actually a bit stronger, the sword will eventually outgrow it, but not by very much, and only at VERY high strength levels.
Not criticising at all, merely sharing stuff I´ve learnt over an absurd number of hours. ^^
Nothing beats the good ol' Greatsword™ sweeps when you're surrounded.
Gyrm Gr8hammer gr8est Gr8hammer. The Giant Warrior's Club is the GGH on crack, hits harder but breaks quickly.
The Red Rust Sword is meh. The Scimitar is great, but has rather bad scaling, overall.
Mace or Craftman's Hammer are the poor men's Gr8hammers.
The greatsword is probably the best pure str weapon out there, if you can stand the delayed attacks. Even works well in PvP if you can delay your r1s or trick people into thinking you have less stamina than you do.
Its not big and heavy, but the gargoyle bident should be mentioned. Its the best str spear. Yorgh's is also fun. You can see it on display in sinh's chest when you fight him.
The malformed skull is interesting to use because its a huge skull with teeth. Incredible base damage, but breaks easy.
Don't forget that the weapons marked as c/c in scaling are actually mostly str weapons, not quality weapons. Thats the zwei, claymore, longsword, etc.
Drakekeeper gets points for one of the longest, reliable and easy to use greataxes. R1 R1 is good for roll catching, but don't abuse it. That could end up with being parried. Two handed rolling attacks is a short range but darn quick axe shove into the ground.
Fun Fact : Longest greataxe is actually Black Knight Greataxe, but they ruined the black knight weapons. Badly. It was meant to kill fire demons and the like. Now it itself does fire damage and they took out the unique moveset.
Gyrm greataxe has fashion souls for holding it like a straightsword and has a moveset that not too many see very often. Haven't used it but i plan to. I've heard rumors that thing has a 3 hit combo somewhere. Probably patched, but i'm not sure.
Pickaxe is hilarious. If you can deal with it's ridiculous sweet spot, that is. (remember weapons don't combo if it doesn't hit it's sweetspot.) 1h moveset is a bit junky, as the R1 R1 has nearly no forward motion and never really combos, unless they roll into your face. Bonus for greathammer rolling attacks however. 2h moveset is more reliable as it has the greatsword smash and pull out that does combo and can hit behind you. R2s are the greathammer slam and spin. Light-weight, so put on rob+flynn to bring up it's potential
Winning matches and killing bosses with this farming tool is really satisfying. Played this thing on my peasant build + Giant's ring and got some reliable kills in the BoB arena.
Only drawback to these weapons is the difficulty of obtaining them.
Estoc is also a choice, but it isn't smashy enough. Helps against ridiculously offensive guys using the black flamestone dagger with stone ring however.
Some clarification for everybody:
Strength Scales better than dex does in the game.
A regular Great Scythe has a base damage of 280 and gets i think A or S scaling in dex and only ever gets +70 more damage at the 40 cap. Well, the dex scaling actually offers +63, but the strength stat being at the minimum of 12 for wielding it adds another +7 to that, because it offers either an E or D.
Not the best dex weapon, compared to the likes of warped sword which obviously scale stronger in dex than this.
Bone scythe would've been better, as it has higher base and Good Str Scaling, but what kind of peasant has a farming tool made of bones?
Also easiest to parry of all Reapers mind you. Sweetspot is massive.
The Pickaxe with a base of 300 on the other hand, also has an A scaling in strength and gets a much larger boost of +133 damage at the 40 cap. There is no dex scaling on this one, so nothing to worry.
Not the best Strength weapon either, but 533 ar with rob+flynn at a low 8 points of weight can be pretty devastating.
Aswell as the Straight Sword powerstance-speed when powerstanced with Ultra Greatswords.
There are still some videos about these... it worked with any of the "light GAxes", so with the Lion Gaxe, Bandit's GAxe and Black Dragon GAxe, if I didn't left any out. They all have the "sword-stance".
The Pickaxe has 150 counter and benefits from the Leo Ring, to add to the list. It's insanely strong (if you manage a clean hit with a sweetspot - that's at the outside of the PAxe, for some dumb reason!)
However, it's got a weird online glitch. It's literally impossible to freeaim it during swings by default, you've to disable an option in the settings... Auto-aim, IIRC? Sounds like a troll, but it's actually true.
Not entirely true, it still has unique R1s and the fast Hilt-Parry.
Yeah, i thought they would've patch the Gyrm Gaxe combo. Getting stunned and hurt for around 1700 damage is a bit nuts.
To add some detail however, they did take out the unique R2s the black knight weapons had from DS1, that was actually what i meant about the "Unique Moveset" :/ .
Was kinda bummed out when the greataxe didnt do the little slide on the ground and launch it high upwards.
But you know what does that move and launches a projectile? Moonlight greatsword 2h R2. Sadly never seen anyone ever use it 2-handed. I just see mages with poor fashion souls (Stop it with black hood+lion mage set. You look silly. I know it offers more cast speed, but you look like a rip-off straid.) whiff out the 1-handed R2 and abuse the wide R1 swings.
About Pickaxe pvp:
I tend to play unlocked because of that no tracking junk.
I normally play around with the opponent, taunts, spinning around like a doofus, channeler trident dance Etc. Humourous junk like that.
Your fastest attacks are really the 1-handed rolling attacks and the 2-handed run/backstep attacks, so throw them off with that. One of your biggest advantages is probably that not too many people really know the moveset.
Foot soldier shield for maximum poor man shield and small shield parry. Since i find it a silly weapon to play and kill things with, playing meatball parade while playing can really get you into the spirit of how funny it is that your opponent was beaten by a tool . Pun intended. I think. Depends.
Thats because the 2h moveset of the MLGS is trash. its a balancing point: you have to invest 18 str as a mage to get the decent 1h moveset. Thats quite a bit of investment. Besides, its a great-sword... so there is that too.
utility over fashion I guess? I'd take the black witch set over the lion mage any day. Elemental resistance > a small boost in casting speed.
