13 estus flask shards?

I made a new character and played the game without resetting any of the estus shard locations. How come I have 1 left? I know it's known you can get more by NG. However I never did anything like that. I must have gotten a 13th somewhere but didn't notice!

There are 13 in each NG so you can always miss one to get the 12 max that you can have.
Also, if you reset any area with an estus, you won't get it again. Nothing will be where it was

Thanks for the confirmation on the numbers. However every tutorial shows the same 12 shards. Here are the shards I know. Forest of fallen giants 1, Majula 2, Lost bastille 1, No man's wharf passage 1, Things betwixt 1, The Gutter 1, Huntsman copse 1, Shrine of Amana 1, Drangleic castle 1, Shaded woods 1, Brightstone cove 1. I really would like to know the last location. I can't find it in any video and the wiki. Reddit posts are always about how stupid it is to have 13.
