Titanite chunks.
Where's the earliest spot you can get some of these?

Bell Keeper covenant in the lost bastille. Second spot that doesn't involve PVP would probably be the Coal Tars in Black Gulch, which you can rush to fairly quickly.

Where is Black Gulch?
At the third circle of Hell under Majula.

It is actually called the "Hellgate", but yes, it's inside of this.

Or beat the final boss and buy an unlimited supply from Chloanne.

If you want some to upgrade with with for example twinking you have to go around and collect them from all over the place. That is unless you fight in the bell tower but good luck finding a match when you are in a area where you are not supposed to be in yet.

Coal Tar is that grabby hand worm thing that hides in the flammable puddles, right? The name sounds a lot more like a blob monster to me :P

The peasants before Prowling Magus can drop these. Not too reliable, so probably rare or maybe even very rare drop, but they can. I farmed a few there.

There are 2 in a chest under the ballistas in FoFG if you ascetic cardinal tower. There are 4 per ascetic in the poison pool once you beat earthen peak.

Getting a +10 weapon early on is pretty easy if you just hunt around the early spots and focus on just 1 weapon.

If you are newish to the game, either farm by rng, or just loot the various areas and keep an eye out for them. +6 is generally fine before drangleic or so.

Yes, those are the ones. The name doesn't make much sense to me either, as it seems to describe their habitat more than the creatures themselves, but that seems to be what they're called. :feena:

Another tip but not guaranted

During your playthrough you can find many silky stones

Use a luck coin, luck gear and leave all of them (one at time) at the two birds in thing betwix

There's a chance that they might give you a Titanite Chunk, Twinkle or even Dragon Bones or some good equips

Bell Keepers PvP also works wonders if you are good at it, you can get if you get invaded and invade as well, so it's another option

If you grind at Bell Keepers for 6 chunks you can get a +10 weapon at Lost Bastile just after the Guardian boss fight

Also, before Lost Sinner there's the Flexile Sentry enemy that also drop Chunk and 3 K souls, but that requires a fast kill / homeward to be a option also, you would need to raise and drop the elevator every single time

I can attest to that being VERY annoying (annoying enough that I gave up on NG++ lost sinner on my 100% run and farmed The Rotten instead), so if you always push the button and then get off the elevator as it starts rising you can save yourself a lot of time :P

Twin Dragon Greatshield is stable enough that Flexile Sentry's attacks will just bounce off it, so if you buy that fighting the sentry repeatedly gets much easier. Just keep an eye on your stamina.
