They got rid of the trap line
They edited the old pitter chat so Eriko doesn't call Misery a trap any more.

wow really dude thats disgusting them getting rid of trap in favor of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ modern senabilities that explains this pointless update they got rid of the word trap to not offend the normies and this is a xseed game and i thought they had more balls than the other translation companies but i guess they even bent the knee to normies

Western moral warriors strike again. Japanese culture going mainstream was a mistake. At least spending painstaking nights on various boards and download sites frustrated at trying to get a game then patch it in English beats the creator's original ideas going down the toilet.

I'm torn about going back and changing a ten year old game. I kinda support it more for the rerelease on consoles but this being an update to a game people already bought, ehhh I don't know. Media is a product of their time and all that.

That said, I'm not going to miss it. As a trans person myself who felt the sting of that post when I replayed the game rather recently during a time where animosity and vitriol towards us is at an all time high, if removing that line helps prevent people like me from feeling alienated by the game then I guess its better this way. After all that line didn't really add anything to the game.

It's also worth noting that "trap" is an English slang term used specifically in the English anime community, it is not in Japanese. So it is not in fact part of "the original vision". Japan has the concept of "otokonoko" but it doesn't share that same connotation of malice and deception inherent to the word "trap".

Trap is often considered a slur nowadays so it makes sense that they'd write that out in their modern rerelease, if for no other reason than to avoid controversy. The new line still has them questioning/denying their identity, just less aggressively and without the "slur".

As for whether "trap" actually is a slur... I'd like to say no? I've seen femboys claim the term in a positive way and I think they should be able to do so, but the word has definitely been used in a derogatory manner as well, and in this specific context it is in fact being used in a derogatory way.

Perhaps you're disliked because you support censorship and inaccurate translations?

What's the original line?

I was really looking forward to the DLC but if they want to change the game for people that will never play it than they don't need my money, I'm really glad I never bought the PC version now.

I don't know the original line. If you're having to ask, then you don't either. If someone who does will oblige us, then great.

But like I mentioned, "Traps" aren't a concept in Japan, that's a meme specifically in the English anime community. Putting that line in here wasn't all that much different than when they made Nagatoro say "sus". Except for the entire derogatory aspect, of course.

Anime translations rarely ever are hyperliteral because literal translations don't make for realistic dialogue between two extremely different languages. But I can almost guarantee the original Japanese did not use a slang term created by the English anime community. That's more of something XSEED would add.

The game lets you pick a female character model and even cross dress, and a huge portion of the trans community are weebs, in what world does it make sense that trans people wouldn't play this game

I don't think someone that has a issue with the term trap is going to play a game about strip random people on streets, but if you think I'm wrong ok.
