Why are the devs so upset about Sseth's review?
He praised the game, recommended it and got it tons of sales, yet they're screaming about racism(???) and such in the discord and on twitter.

What exactly is going on? Is this just another case of American political brainwashing?

Are you just another case of political brainwashing?

Sseths review was almost entirely fine. Nobodys upset at it at all (the segment where mod names were shown during the banning I think was unprofessional); most of it was just a solid marketing piece for qud. A small % of bad actor fans washed in with the tide. They're mildly irritating.

In this thread we see a textbook example of "just asking questions"

A lot of people are upset with how devs are treating some of the community, and some people have decided to restart the discussions about the Putus Templar, but unfortunately a lot of people claim if you want interaction with them, you are of a certain political alignment which is very unfair in my views.
There has been has some people poking the hornets nest in bad fashion, but also some people wanting to change for the good. Sseth showed such a minor topic easily caused such a split in a community because peoples opinions about the Putus can be ridiculous and somehow equate to how one thinks irl,, which i think needs to change.

The devs are also not helping with this by things like

Questions like this aren't being asked in good faith, it's just manufacturing outrage by framing a (false) statement as a question.

oh look, the side being heavily moderated is making backhanded comments and spewing rumors with no evidence presented whatsoever!

I wonder why they are so frequently pushed out of peaceful communities....

The game is the game, it's solid and seems to have little to no political leakage effecting it. And even if there is - we can mod it anyway.

The issue most people are complaining about is the discord. The Caves of Qud discord even at a cursory glance comes off as very tumblr'y. Compare this to Sseth's very /v/ styled subscribers - and some minor conflicts were bound to occur, despite Sseth saying "just ignore the discord" in his review.

As the developer noted though, it's a very small number of people conflicting. There's 600,000 people who watched that review, yet we've only seen like a dozen threads in the steam discussions complaining about the discord.

Edit: today I learned abbreviating "'C'aves 'o'f 'Q'ud" autodetects as a swear word. Perhaps because it reads like slang for a male chicken?

Even if this is the one game where the dev and community are very outspokenly left-leaning, just play the game and leave the community alone.

You can spew your dumb opinions in almost any other community throughout gaming without getting censored.

No one is mad about the video sseth made. They're annoyed because his fans joined the discord with the intention to start trouble then get pissy when they violate the very clear rules that server lay out and get banned for it as a punishment. Yikes.

Honestly if a game is so secluded and sheltered from anyone else it needs a Youtube personality to breathe life into the community after being "sekret club for only me", it needs a community nuke.

Whoever put that nerd in charge of the discord to boot him is reflective towards those who officially promote and develop the game.

Lmao that sounds like a judgement. You don't know the intentions of the OP. Who are you to say the question wasn't in good faith? I'm baffled by the moderation of this game's community.

I'm an official moderator of this community so it's literally my responsibity to make those judgements.

Just for the reasonable lurkers, an example of how this technique works and why its used.

Consider the differences between me saying:

"You are an alt-right trolls making bad faith posts on many communities."

And

"I've heard (from source unspecified) that you're an alt-right troll making bad faith posts in many commuinities, is this true? Is that a nice thing to do? Is this the result of nazi youtube brainwashing?"

One is a declaration I clearly have responsibility for, the other is a way to broadcast a ton of spurious claims with plausible deniability that I'm the actual source of the claims.

It's reasonably easy to spot when you know what you're seeing.

Well said!

inb4 they switch to insults and/or swap topics entirely.
