Items counting as "impure metal" that shouldn't and/or clarification needed
1. Red Gauntlets never specify their material type yet burn you

2. The Golden Gladius burns Mist Elves even though it's made of gold

1. sounds like working as intended, although it doesn't make much sense the point is supposedly the PC can't tell the difference between red leather gauntlets and red dragon-hide gauntlets. the first is not metal, while the dragon-hide gauntlets are iron. I'm not srue why the PC can't differentiate the material types

2. is interesting, I wonder if it's a bug or intended. this becomes a question of semantics... is "impure metal" supposed to be things with iron, or is "impure" anything that's not mithril/adamantium/eternium?

Hence why I said clarification needed, if iron/steel (as said on the wiki) damages mist elves we need material type of items to be specified in the description somehow so we aren't forced to rely solely on trial and error. I don't see why gold should damage mist elves, so either way we need specifics on which types of metal kill mist elves or some sort of clue in general to give us a heads up.

You can use the Metallurgy skill to check whether it is metal or read a scroll of identify.

Right but the reason I put this in the bug section is that a golden gladius should not be burning a mist elf. And not a lot of classes get metallurgy nor is there a way of getting it besides a class/wish so it's a bit stupid to have to rely on that or trial and error.

Regarding the golden gladius, it could be an alloy with an impure metal (silver or copper) as pure gold won't hold it's shape very well. Also weapons (and shields) made of iron won't burn your skin if you're wearing gloves

I cannot recall the Golden Gladius being stated that it is made of gold the metal, it may just be gold the colour.

Also, I cannot recall any gloves other than Gauntlets that are 'impure'. Coloured gauntlets are either leather or dragonhide (Adamantium?). Rings and Amulets are certainly something which can be impure and cause this issue, even if they're much harder to detect as being impure prior to wearing.

The issue is really just that you need some obscure skill that very few classes have just to determine what metal your gear is made from. And on top of that there's no clear description of items to let you know before hand what will potentially kill your character. the fact you can wear gloves to prevent (some) harmful metals from touching your character isn't relevant here. We need better descriptions and item names so mist elves at the very least can determine that gauntlets are something other than "red" and actually something harmful before using them.

Well a really good way to figure out if it's impure is to put it on and see if it hurts you. Just make sure it's not cursed.

What I do find confusing is that gauntlets protect rings from destruction (gauntlets go over ring?), and they prevent ME iron ring damage (gauntlets go under ring?).

A very simple fix to all this that would make it so you don't have to hurt youself to see what your equipment is made of, just give all mist elves metallurgy. Not like it's a valuable skill anyway for anyone but them.
