If I recall correctly, Burdened trains Strength to 16 (depending on your potential maximum), Strained to 18 and Strained! to 20. Overburdened! trains Strength - potentially higher - but severely abuses Dexterity. So, your original assertion was quite correct! With the new changes this may have been altered but it's a good rule of thumb to keep in mind.
I guess if you wanted to test it, it shouldn't be too hard to save scum an answer. Dublicate saves with lots of food (preferably stomafillia herb) Run around burdened and/or strained in map like old barbarian clearing and see how long it takes. Compare the results and run the test multiple times. Afterwards update the wiki. =)
Yes, that would work. Unfortunately it requires me to not be too lazy to do it. :P
It's getting harder to play low tougness race/class combos now tho. Unless you find some potions to raise potential or stat itself.
Garth won't train potentials either. I paid like 50k gold to him to raise my toughness, but never got the increase.
Unfortunately if You are Overburden it also abuses dexterity.
Really good question and one I've wondered about myself. I never find the spell early enough to test it, sadly.
