How do I maintain neutral aligment in this game? Need adom expert advice
Hi guys.

I have a question for adom veterans and experts:

How the heck am I supposed to maintain neutral aligment in this game?

Quick background: I play as Grey Elf Wizard, starting with either Raven or Wand starsigned. Which means I am either N or NL at the start.

As soon as I complete one or two out of three quests from the village (save villager, rescue small dog, kill raider warlord), my aligment shifts to L. :( Good bye my decent initial standing with neutral god. :((

Yes, I know that after sacrifacing 1gp on neutral altar (assuming I get lucky and find it early) I will go back to NL. But once it happens my standing with my neutral god will be reset to zero, as I've learned the hard way, and I will have to build it up again. Which iseems to be very hard to do in the begining of the game, especially if an altar is next to the wall (can't do live sacrifaces, have to wait for the rare corpse to drop). Very annoying. :(

Is there any easy way to lower my aligment a bit toward chaos, while it still NL? I've been killing (with spells) non agresive monsters all the time, but it doesn't seem to shift my aligment much, if any.

Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot.

Well if you're getting too lawful... do something evil.

Attacking friendly MONSTERS is a great way to slightly lower it - attacking neutrals doesn't do anything. Picking pockets is also a little bit evil. Slaughtering little girls in terinyo is a great way to be very evil. Killing a beggar will drop you from N= to NC, for reference.

Another option is to just not get lawful in the first place.
You don't have to turn in quests right when you finish them. Some of them, like hte puppy quest, don't even have a reward other than alignment boost.

Ways of changing alignment slowly:

Attack a friendly creature (Solid Green health bar as compared to Pale Green for Neutral). Most often friendly creature is a Blink Dog. Moderate hit to alignment.

Attack store owners, or steal from them, whichever you prefer. This causes a large hit though.

Pickpocketing I believe, is chaotic.

Attack any enemies with specific weapons like Corrupting (causes corruption too) or Vampiric are chaotic actions.

Casting calm monster on a monster until they are an ally, and then attacking them. Same works I think with music on animals.

Reading a Tract of Balance or Tract of Chaos might do the trick, though there may be consequences for doing so, so only do so in extreme situations.

Could tame an animal into a pet, and then kill the pet.

Could get the maggots corruption and kill the spawned ally maggots.

Wizards start with the healing skill, so you might consider doing the druid quest instead of the elder quest. Completing the druid quest moves your alignment towards N=.

Giving the neutral deity sacrifices also moves your alignment towards N=.

Wearing an item of balance will also move your alignment towards N=.

Drinking a potion of balance also.

It's generally much easier to drop alignment than the opposite. Just do whatever you think might be chaotic (but not too chaotic or you could drop from L to C). Generally attacking peaceful/friendlly creatures (you can check this by the 'l'ook command, or if you bump into them and swap places) is a good way to drop. Also killing certain lawful creatures even if they are hostile can cause your alignment to drop (be careful of raging farmers or goodwives in a certain town)

For neutrals saccrificing large amount of gold [10-20k] at a neutral altar should put them at N=. Character must be at some sort of neutral flavor, although.

Note that neutral is a fairly narrow range of alignment in terms of stones (which can be revealed by a scroll of balance). In terms of stones -10,000 to -1,000 is C; -999 to +999 is N; +1,000 to +6,000 is L. If you're having trouble because you're hitting L, try doing some chaotic acts :D
