How to buy/sell items in shops...?

In ADOM, how do I buy food, items, etc? And what about selling items? I seem to remember something about how shop vendors will only buy items that line up with what they sell. (i.e. a guy selling food won't buy items that are not food related, and vice versa).

in bandit village you can sell or buy various equipment. In Terino village only food, in dwarf town food, itemc. etc. Buy on $ button(u need pick item and $ to buy it), to sell items u just drop it to the ground.

You can also stand next to the merchant and (C)hat with them.
