Dumb question about randomly getting corrupted.

I was at the Borderland Settlement around the moment I could enter there but I realized. I was randomly getting Corrupted above my head in purple text.

Is this background corruption or was there something in my backpack corrupting me? Because there was no ingame message that I could find that I was getting corrupted. And in my past playthroughs, I had the ingame messages either turned off or it wasn't added yet.

Probably background corruption.

Yeah it's your background corruption. I don't like that the game shows it; especially in the late game when it happens almost every turn.

Some items prevent part or even all background corruption when blessed, my chaos knight run makes very good use of this so I can have decent control over my corruptions.
