Changing alignment

Im a level 31 Gnome Chaos Knight have all 5 orbs on D:47 with a neutral altar and I wan't to change my alignment. how many gold pieces should I sacrifce so I don't accidentaly convert it with too many sacrifices as I have had happen?

You want to make small sacrifices. I wouldn't go over 1000 although your high level might give you some leeway. So sac tens of gold or maybe a hundred at a time. If you have a whip you could also remove your armor and use it in the tool slot. Potions of balance and amulets of balance and order would also help.

I have sacrificed gold for about an hour and no change of alignment. I have tried to sacrifice more gold but it just changes the altar after 20 tries I have spent the past 3 hours trying to change my alignment with a whip of slaughtering. Lawful altars and neutral altars and nothing

If you sacrifice 1 gold at a time on a lawful altar it will take you around 450 turns to reach NC from C-.

Yeah tried that took me about a thousand turns with no alignment change. Anyways I fixed it.

Just in case if someone searching for answer: for my 46lvl wizard didn't work lot of stuff (notably amulet/armor of order and sacrificing money to altars/Ruun) but worked whipping. Just 'U'se whip to self injure util have results. Take off all your armor first ;)

when you hit lvl 50 your alignment gaining is almost blocked if you want to get lawful, couple extra ways to get to lawful: go to arena floor in caverns of chaos, buy all the food they are selling, go to Lawenilothehl and give all that food to beggars, (helped me to get from L -> L+ after used all the healing spells for pets, whip didn't do anything because too great pv without items) its not much but one way more. also you can give all the herbs/mushrooms you don't need. in lvl 50 altar money sacrifice doesn't change alignment.
