Nifty stone weapons (prefix, suffix etc)
A few games ago I found a stone spear of devastation. That was extraordinarily nifty and all...

Now I've found a stone axe of hunting (+0, 1d7+4). Not too shabby for my first non-iron weapon, and I've always really coveted the hunting suffix... And always wanted to find prefixed and suffixed stone weapons for use against various slimes.

Playing a dark elf elementalist, by the way. Took quests in town, killed a bandit, learned pick pockets, and headed straight for the SMC and the UD beyond. Found this weapon on UD:1. Hopefully I get a chance to take advantage of it and don't just die in the next several turns.

Stone weapons are ok and all, but their weight can get to be a pain. Personally, I just ditch the stone stuff and throw rocks or shoot jellies I see. Rocks are a surprisingly good early game weapon.

I usually ignored stone weapons for the longest time, but I started picking them up after one of my characters had to get through a fairly large tension room of grey oozes to get out of the UD without going back through the SMC. Rocks weren't quite plentiful enough to deal with more than a few. Melee became my last option, and my weapon corroded to something like -15 at which point I did no damage at all.

I wonder if I could have wielded an iron ration and hit the oozes without corrosion effects...

As for the weight consideration, depending on race and class I might not have bothered picking them up, but I'll often see them before I find any adamantium or eternium, so I decided it's okay to grab one temporarily. Especially the clubs, since they weigh a lot less than the axes or spears.

True, also you can go unarmed if you have acid resist and are desperate. Your gloves r safe with acid resist. Also if you find a rare "green" prefix it's safe. Adamantium isn't safe from corrosion though, only eternium.

Oh yeah, just remembered you can melee with rocks (they break easy though) and if your thrown rocks skill is high, it adds onto your melee to hit and dmg.

Oh right, the green prefix. Green crude daggers, green clothes, stuff like that, really easy to see just by walking over it, at least in ASCII mode. I don't know anything about tile mode.

Huh, meleeing with rocks being affected by thrown rocks skill is something I didn't know.
