Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

This SINGLE PLAYER game needs constant online connection to Ubisoft? Do you think I'm stupid?
There's no way in hell I'm buying a SINGLE PLAYER ONLY game that needs Constant Internet Connection. That's a fraud, really. Why would I even do that? What would be the incentive in screwing myself over?

Third Party DRM, nice job Ubisoft. I hope I won't be the only one who's not willing to purchase the game on such terms.

I dont understand why you think that it's fraud - it's even listed in the system requirements that an online connection is required.

Internet Connection: Broadband Internet connection with 128 kbps or faster

Have you tried using UPlays offline mode?

Anyways, it's right there on the store page - calling it fraud is quite untrue.
Well, I just don't understand how that's supposed to encourage sales, and discourage pirating.

At least according to the Wikipedia article for the game Ubisoft changed it so that you only have to connect once to register the game key to your Uplay profile and after that you can play in offline mode indefinitely. I imagine the Steam page just hasn't been updated, as they are pretty slow about things like that.
Oh okay then, that's acceptable.

I had problems connecting to uplay this morning. instead of the game logo and play button it will just say cant retrieve game information. and i was not able to start the game at all.
i had to try a few times to get things working, maybe uplay servers are overloaded or something
Must be the Steam sale. :P

Just for reference from Wikipedia:

Digital rights management
The Forgotten Sands uses an enhanced version of Ubisoft's digital rights management system (DRM), requiring the user to be connected to Ubisoft's servers in order to play. This new version loads part of the game's content from the server and will not allow the player to continue if a connection to the server does not exist. On 28 June 2010 the DRM was cracked by replacing the code with offline equivalents.[18] The requirement of a permanent internet connection while playing was finally dropped. Versions download directly with the Uplay launcher and with the steam client do not require a constant internet connection to play single-player.

Steam page says this though..

Online Requirement
A PERMANENT HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS GAME. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://www.princeofpersia.com

So no sale from me.

Actually after reading through this thread ( http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1902533 ) from a couple years ago it looks like the true answer is somewhere in the middle, unless things have changed further since then. Hmm. :|

While I agree that the whole online at all times thing is crappy, its one of the best games I've played.

I agree, it's a great game. The DRM isn't even that bad.

It baffles me too. It discourages sales, and encourages pirating. They are feeding the very thing they are trying to decrease by putting crap DRM in their games. It makes me want to pirate a modded version with the DRM taken out. Good job Ubishat.
