I recently wanted to play Forgotten Sands, but the game doesn't respond to any keys. I can't hit Enter, use my controls, no button works, not even a gamepad.

Not sure if this is still an issue, but leaving an answer anyway. You need to manually disable the steam overlay for this game, as it breaks input. (The reason why other PoP games have the overlay permanently disabled, only Valve forgot to do it this time.)

Thanks, this solved my issue I had (below) as well.

But then how can you take a screenshot to upload for Steam?? Not Possible without Overlay??

I get the Steam message saying do 'Shift+Tab' so I do that and when I quit the overlay it has disabled all keys. But the way I found to solve this was to do 'Alt-Tab' to go to Steam (or whatever application I have running) and then when I go back into the game I find keyboard input is working again. So doing this will keep the overlay active and allow you to still make Steam screenshots.
